whats going on here?! help?!

So I purchased a nismo carbon fiber shift knob.
So I was able to take off the oem shift and was about to install the nismo shift knob. However there are no screws?! i am talking about the spiral thingy that makes it spin and fit in. However this shift knob is just plane and there are no ways to screw it in. Is this a defect or what is it? Like you know how in a screw there are those spiral lines which makes it spin in, there are none inside the shift knob. IS THIS NORMAL? so basically i cant screw it in. lol it just falls right off... lol...

Defect or whats up?!

Hmm..I have a nismo shift knob with no issues. Are you sure you checked the knob to see if it's threaded?

mantella87 03-20-2012 09:23 PM

Sounds like you bought a knob that isn't threaded. I'm guessing you bought a fake or something if that's the case. Did you get it off Ebay?

JZNx 03-20-2012 10:12 PM

Yes... Fffuuuuuuukkknnnnnn ebayyyy... Now my question is are these fake or are the z's that can acutally use this? I guess the proper term is the word "threaded"... Did i buy the wrong shift knob or a fake shift knob? Are there z's that can use these shift knob without the threads?

Honestly, if it's not threaded you should just throw it away. Submit a negative review to the seller if you want, but they will probably just submit a negative buyer feedback to you making it fruitless. Consider it a life lesson in the world of car parts. I am interested in seeing what you bought though. Can you take pictures of the product and associated packaging?

My CF Nismo shift knob from theZstore has a rubber insert that is built into it, no visible threads on inspection. It is a self-tapping design, the threads are created in the rubber as you thread it in the first time. I believe instructions were included that explained this. Not the best design, but it works fine. Ensure you press down firmly as you thread it on the first time and that it is relatively level.

Mine has no threads what so ever. Is this 100% fake?

edconline 03-20-2012 11:04 PM

Is there rubber inside it? Like I said, there are no threads in the rubber, you create them when you press down and screw it on. Does it just sit over the metal loosely?

I don't know if you guys can see it clearly but there are no threads what so ever... which makes it impossible to install on our 370z.

That looks like black rubber inside. Feel inside if it is, do the following:

1) put finisher over metal rod
2) put the knob over the rod, press down firmly and start to thread it in clockwise
3) you will notice that the knob is threading on, continue to thread until it gets nice and tight and is lined up to where you want the logo facing

if you feel inside and it is metal not rubber, then maybe it is indeed a fake. the packaging and included stuff looks identical to the one i got from Zstore.

Weird. Manufacturing defect maybe, should have the rubber sleeve in there. Even the stock code on the box is correct for the genuine part. Try to get a refund I guess.
