To tint front windows or not?

Simply put I am debating tinting my front windows. I have talked to some people that never get pulled over for it and others it was just a hasstle. In NJ it is illegal for the fronts to be tinted.

I was thinking

Rear 20-30%

Front 35-40%

Anyone have any experience with front tint?

I currently have:

50% on the windshield
25% on door windows and side windows
10% on the hatch

No problems or tickets. My car being black, the front windshield looks normal and the side windows look stock. If you were to do this on a brighter color say Red, Silver, Blue, or White, it would probably be more noticeable.

Disclaimer: I have had this car in AZ and SC where tint laws are pretty lax. You'll want to check to see what your individual states laws permit before paying for it.

I have 55% on Windshield, 20% on all other windows. Cops have pulled me over a couple times for not displaying my license plate on the front, never mentioned anything about the tint.

Hey Big,

Also check your state laws regarding being able to have the tint darker than normal if you use your vehicle for business purposes. I am sure you will have to explain how you carry equipment/tools in your vehicle and it would help hinder the view into the vehicle. I live in Louisiana and I am about to fill out a "Security exemption Affidavit" for that reason.

How about some rep. LMAO

Hope it works out for ya.

I just had 35 done (everything but windshield). That's what's legal here. And it's really not dark at all-you can still see in the car pretty easily. Which is what I wanted - I hate when you can't see what direction another driver is looking (like at a stop sign).

After seeing what 35 looks like I realize how many illegal cars there are in my town. They must not ticket at all for it. My neighbor must have 5 on his Grand Prix - it's just a black reflection.

I did it! Now all my cars have it! :)

I had 50% on my 350 for awhile. You couldn't even tell it was tinted. The only problem that I had was at night. My night vision sucks, but you're young enough it probably wouldn't bother you.

The best technique in my opinion is add a sun stripe that matches ur rear. So what you wanna do is tint really dark in the rear and the back and whatever % you do, do the same with the sun stripe. And make ur front tint lighter than your rear and the sun stripe. This makes it harder to notice the front tint. My setup is 20% rear and 20% sun stripe and i think 40-50% in the front. So far none of my friend even knows that i have my front windows tinted.

hummm... im not sure if i'd want darker windshield.... just for the functionality i like to have best frontal view especially at night in the woods...it can get VERY dark out there even with high beams on.

Cmike2780 03-01-2012 04:36 PM

Chances are, you won't get pulled over for 35-40%, its pretty light. If you do get pulled over for other stuff like speeding, they love tacking that stuff on.

i did mine no tint on front windshield, doors and rear windshield 5 % all around
no ticket yet

bigaudiofanat 03-01-2012 07:17 PM

Windshield will stay the same, I am thinking 20 on the rear and still undecided on 30-35 on front. I will probably go ahead and do it, if I get harassed I will have to get it removed or go lighter. With black interior I do not need to go that dark on the front.

I have my z and sti tinted 50% on the windshield
25% ever were else only pulled over once in Utah in the z
I'd do it

The ticket price in NJ is $54 and they inforce that regularly. Not worth the hassel.

Kandy OrangeZ 03-02-2012 12:36 PM

I have 2.5% on the rear windows and 30% on the fronts. Its illegal in Michigan also, but ive only been stopped for it once.
