Gixxer-370Z 02-07-2012 09:06 PM

kenchan 02-07-2012 09:08 PM

i ended up using my oil filter wrench and killed it real good. :icon17:

i snapped 2 brand new strap wrenches and was like f- it. :D

make sure you hold the shaft side too when you turn. :)

GaleForce 02-07-2012 09:08 PM

Take your time. I got mine off with no marring and following the DIY.

Zeuz 02-07-2012 09:32 PM

ive tried and tried seems that everything keeps slipping off the knob. i dont want to damage it. might try the duck tape tomorrow .

TerribleONE 02-07-2012 09:53 PM

I think its near impossible not to ruin it.. Mines trashed :[

sfearl1 02-07-2012 10:03 PM

mine was thrashed!

mtaxelson 02-07-2012 10:10 PM

If you're lucky. Some cars came with loctite fever.

Jasonle 02-08-2012 07:36 AM

I got mine off with my barehands! haha I was going to use the strap wrench thing...but I decided to try with my hands..and it came right off! No damage or anything!

Zeuz 02-08-2012 08:31 AM

barehands???:bowrofl: wow ! thats crazy !! Come try on mine:rofl2:

Jasonle 02-08-2012 08:43 AM

Haha I did it on my break at work just to see...and it worked! Either I had strong hands or it was loose already :)

Zeuz 02-08-2012 08:52 AM

haha maybe i need to try that at work !! lol haha

GaleForce 02-08-2012 11:01 AM

Mine seemed to have had a whole tube of loctight used on it. It was a struggle but I managed. Also I had to turn the thing for an eternity before it actually came off. When using the strap wrench do everything you can to keep the strap tight. I know, duh, right? It makes a big difference.

Here are some pics for motivation,

Here you can see the stock knob back in place after I installed the short shifter. No damage.

sfearl1 02-08-2012 12:39 PM

i made sure to pry up the finisher and wrap the shift "lever" with a towel and held it with a vice-grip to counter the turning from the wrench/knob up top.

TerribleONE 02-08-2012 01:04 PM

Wow with your hands?!

^^ This. I didn't do this, but should have. Would have made removing the stock knob a little easier.
