Factory Mirror w/ camera ?'s

Hey Guys, anyone have feedback on the factory rear-view mirror w/ the back up cam? Also if anyone has any info on the install of this system it would be appreciated.

Thanks all :tiphat:

Alstann 01-21-2012 02:02 PM

The camera came pre-installed on my car, so I don't have any comments on installation.

Not having really lived with a car with a back-up camera, it is immensely useful to me. The camera is completely hidden while normally driving and sitting in the car, but when in reverse, the screen pops up in the rearview mirror. The camera projects two "aircraft landing" lines on the screen, to align your car with spots and curbs.

It is indeed an expensive dealer option, but I definitely appreciate it every day. I back in everywhere perfectly, I can see low jutting objects such as curbstones or debree in the way, and I could imagine it would be invaluable if I ever decide to lower my car. Of course, you could get away with good practice and knowing the dimensions of the car, but we all make mistakes sometimes, right? :icon17:

How much would that cost me to get it at a dealership? or is there a place that I can buy ???

Felix 808 01-21-2012 06:20 PM

this is the cheapest I have found it. $599 Just wondering what the install involves.

This looks interesting. The compass is a nice touch too. Do you happen to know what the rear camera looks like? Does it stand out like a sore thumb?

The camera is a part of a new license plate light insert. It is a nice set-up that snaps into the left license plate light lamp CAR REAR VIEW CAMERA NISSAN Versa Pulsar Cube 350Z 370Z GT-R/ Infiniti G35 G37 | eBay like this one.

Been wondering about that myself. Visited two different local dealers inquiring about the possibility of adding this to my 2010 Roadster, but, for whatever reason, both were less than interested in my business, or determining if they were even compatible with the 2010.

Interesting that it DOES list the 2010 in the link you posted.

I want this!!!!

Felix 808 01-24-2012 05:22 PM

Called my dealer today to see what it would cost installed $1040 :wtf2: Changed my mind real quick. Should have ordered at time of purchase

GaleForce 01-27-2012 07:33 PM

I need to do that mod. Gotta find the proper Nissan parts first.

UNKNOWN_370 01-27-2012 10:05 PM

I have it. I love it. Mine was basically free. I dealt my camera and the completel sport pkg in at year end deal. Its the perfect add on for a car with such terrible blind spots. Se how much car toys or a custom shop will do it for. It will probably cost around $750-850:

martin82 01-27-2012 10:22 PM

There are a few you can buy cheaper. It just depends if you want the compass etc or the homelink as well. I saw this just now thought i'd share.

not my auction, would make a good retrofit for just mirror/camera for pretty cheap, includes pigtail/pin out:
Autodim OnStar Rearview Mirror w/3.5" LCD BACKUP CAMERA DISPLAY | eBay

too bad the quality of this is pretty crappy if not would be a good idea:

I can install this no problem myself, I'm a licensed automotive electronic technician and a red seal trade construction and maintenance electrician. I know my way around cars and wiring ;) I've been doing this type of stuff for 20 years... Damn I'm old. lol

I want the OEM parts though.

Felix 808 01-28-2012 09:47 AM

Hey daemon1957, Thanks for posting pics. That looks pretty nice, I may have to start saving .

Did you install it, or did it come with the car?

Also thanks for your service Semper Fi http://www.naxja.org/forum/images/smilies/patriot.gif

eddieconfetti 01-28-2012 10:18 AM

it is a cool feature but one thing i dont like is the screen being too small. i drove a lexus with the mirror back up camera feature, it wasnt that helpful compared to my big screen navi. for that much i rather buy after market headunit and get the back up camera with it.

I had it as part of my purchase agreement to be installed after the purchase. They paid $650 and I paid $200 for install. Ast what your local stereo shop will install it for and either chek out some of the dealers on the forum like Jomer at FBNissan and see what kind of deal he can get it for you or even eBay sometimes has it for around $600 for the OEM kit. I really like it. Sure a 7" HU monitor would be larger to see, but this is just great. My wifes Murano has the Nav system and large monitor, but I see just fine and the mirror is a natural location to look at anyways. I hope that helps. Semper Fi Devil Dog!

Felix 808 01-30-2012 11:08 PM

Ok guys, I got the factory install instructions, but need help posting them. If someone can post them, send me a pm with an email address I can send it to.

Thanks again guys :tiphat:

GaleForce 01-31-2012 09:37 PM

Here is a link to the PDF installation files that Felix 808 sent me. It 23 pages long, lots of pics for panel removal, etc. You shouldn't have a problem installing this yourself with these instructions, assuming you're handy with tools.

Thanks Felix 808 +rep for you

I appreciate the effort (repped both of you!), but same here. Downloaded it, but when I try to open in Acrobat Reader X, I get "Cannot find the font 'Z@R3F3.tmp'. Some characters may not display or print correctly"...and then when it does open, nearly all text is missing.

Yes, that's exactly how I received it from Felix 808. Little to no text. Mostly pictures.

Felix 808 - Is that the same for your original? Or does it show more detailed text?

Felix 808 02-04-2012 11:53 AM

Ok Gale, just sent it to you again. Looks like the copy I sent you was messed up. Let me know if any problems or if anyone needs me to send it to you.

Thanks again
Rob

GaleForce 02-04-2012 03:24 PM

Ok Felix, I'll have a look and report back.

GaleForce 02-04-2012 03:38 PM

Ok, guys this is a better copy of the instructions!

Rear Camera installation PDF

Thanks again goes out to Felix 808.

GaleForce 02-04-2012 03:39 PM

Let me know if the link works out for you guys.

DWS44 02-04-2012 04:55 PM

That link worked fine for me, much higher quality and the text showed up. With text though, I realized it only had instructions for a Coupe.

Felix...you (or your source) wouldn't happen to have install instructions for a Roadster, would they?

Felix 808 02-04-2012 06:24 PM

Glad it's working guys.

Sorry, it's the only one I have. Though I'm not sure how you'd be able to route the video cable with the roadster, unless you tuck it under the windshield frame http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/.../confused1.gif Is this even a factory option for the roadster? I'm not sure.

l2iceman 11-14-2016 09:47 PM

Bringing this back up, the file doesn't seem to be working for me. My question is: is there a wire behind the oem navi HU for the reverse camera signal? Normally I would tap into reverse light, but I want to make my own switch to turn on the camera anytime when not in reverse as well as activate when in reverse. So I'd like to tap into the reverse signal by the head unit if possible.
