PLASTI DIP Glossifier

As promised I did a quick test patch on the hood of my beater to show everyone how the Glossifier looks. I think it look pretty good. It felt a little tacky when I took the pics but it had only dried for about 4 hours. I intentionally over-sprayed the glossifier and it peeled off as easily as normal. Also the Glossifier covered Plasti Dip peeled off just the same.

Here are the picks. The Glossed side is on the left:

interesting. can you leave it on (outdoors) for a couple of months to see how it degrades or not? :)

b1adesofcha0s 12-15-2011 12:57 PM

Great job, thanks for posting the pics! Wonder how this will look if I used it on my Z's roof. I want the gloss black roof to flow well with the tinted rear window, which is why I hated the flat look of the regular plasti dip.

Synack 12-15-2011 01:50 PM

Uh oh! Might be time to gloss black some wheels.

DufDaddy 12-15-2011 09:58 PM

:iagree:

I already peeled the test patch off...hey even though it is my beater I didn't feel like answering "Why is there a big black square on your hood?" :p

Like Synack below I plan to do my wheels all black then gloss them. Originally I thought that I'd get em powdercoated but if this looks good I'll use the $300 I avoid spending on the PWDRCT and do something else to the ride. If I wasnt going away this weekend I would gloss my already dipped wheels for you to see.

My concern is that the gloss dries and remains tacky, but there are flaws with my experiment. For starters it is December here in PA and it isn't exactly warm. So it is very likely that the weather wasn't the best for application even though the can said nothing about NOT applying it in cold weather. Also, I only let it dry for 4 hours, the can says let dry 8 before using. If it did remain tacky it would be pretty much useless to us since it would gather road dust like crazy and dull up quickly.

More pics to come, probably

Probably better than using it in 100* weather like I did :p.

So the glossifier says to let the plasti dip dry for 8 hrs before trying to use it?

Ohhhh ok, thanks

happytheman 12-16-2011 10:19 PM

Hmm, looks pretty good. I dunno that I'd want to use it on a large panel, like the roof...but for smaller areas I think it'll look fine. :)

DufDaddy,

That looks really good. Now that we are in Feb. How do they look now?

tonybui 02-05-2012 04:06 PM

Is it easier to clean compare to the pasti dip wheels without glossifier ?

DufDaddy 03-17-2012 01:29 PM

Well it's now middle of March and the dipped wheels with glossifier still look good. Even after being able to drive the Z all winter cuz it was so warm they still are pretty sharp after a good washing. Admittedly they do seem to gather dust and loose the glimmer faster due to the texturedness of the Dip, and they are a little tougher to clean by hand (the glossifer doesn't smoothe it out). But three months of driving and there are very few dings to the Dip. Ultimately, considering it cost me about $20 to do the wheels up like this I could handle needing to redo it once a year or even 6 months considering the savings vs, powdercoating.

PlastiDip Question

So I did my wheels in four coats of black PlastiDip with one coat of Glossifier over it. It has dried for about a week. It is definitely tacky. My question - has anyone had issues with the PlastiDip getting shredded going through a car wash? I watched all the DipYourCar vids and they showed them spraying with a pressure washer on the wheels with no problems. Went through just a standard car wash and when I got home the wheels were a mess. Any thoughts?

Trutactix 06-09-2014 09:13 PM

You probably needed more gloss for one but never go through pressure washes, kinda a rule of thumb, just because you saw them do it, doesn't mean yours will do the same

I never would use a car wash regardless of what is on my wheels =(

i agree. self wash places are just as bad if not worse. a bucket, soap, wash mitt, hose is all you need.

ElVee 06-11-2014 12:30 PM

It's possible the car wash you went to just has a higher pressure than the hand units the guys in the vids use?
