Titanium shift knobs are generally much heavier than other materials.

actually Ti is a lighter metal than aluminum or steel... If a Ti knob is heavier its because its counter weighted or not Ti... Ti is chosen for its lightness properties.

Depending on the alloy, titanium is 40% less dense that most steel alloys. However if you have a solid or semi-solid titanium shift knob, it's going to be heavy. It's just like the old Spoon titanium shift knobs that were offered for Hondas, as well as the OEM titanium shift knob available from Honda as an option for the S2K. Those knobs are not light and if you look inside, it's all titanium with no separate core or sleeve.

Most aftermarket shift knobs are aluminum with a steel counterweight, which make them heavy. A solid titanium shift knob is also going to be heavy.

True... it is going to depend on the grade of metal... I will have to check and see what grade these are. They weigh about a 1/5 pound and I think the Zele one weighs about 1 pound...

In my experience I like heavier knobs

You don't want to make a shift knob lighter... that's not an area that I would shave weight from. A lighter shift knob will carry with each movement less kinetic energy / momentum, making it harder to engage the next gear and utilizing more input from the driver. A heavier gear knob will cause the shifter to "fall in place" easier which will give you smoother gear changes with less effort from the driver.

I like the teal one :)

BeemaaZ 11-30-2011 07:21 PM

What is the diameter on the round ones? if the dia. is at least 2.25" I am in.

bullitt5897 11-30-2011 08:53 PM

They are atleast 2" in diameter... same size as would be ARC and similar shift knobs
