Front fog lights
Sitting here with my laptop looking out at around -10F. Gunmetal gray Z is safely parked in garage. Have a few things I'm wanting to do over the next few months to it. First, is finish with the sound deadening by pulling door panels off. Second, is to see if anyone knows about putting fog lights on the front of these cars.
Haven't seen anything on this, but know how nice it would be to have this additional lighting option.... Appreciate whatever you can offer. Pat |
You can only fit a pretty small one in the slot next to the fangs. Seen a pic of Z with those and they look terrible IMO.
not that i am suggesting this bumper, but you can use it as a reference to what the Z will look like with fog lights. http://www.forcegt.com/wp-content/up...g_Z34_370z.jpg |
Please don't put foglights on a Z, leave that fad in 1997 where it belongs.

So I take this as not be applicable and certainly not up to other member's expectations? Sorry folks, but would like to have as much lighting on the front of mine as possible. Ever had a 1 ton moose walk out in front of you? Fogs do a much better job of lighting up the outside corners.....
Thanks.... |

I really don't get why fog lights are so hated. It's just a matter of installing in the right spot and a type that doesn't look like you got it at Autozone. It need to look OEM.
The Nissan DRL's don't look too bad. I kind of like them actually, just a bit pricey. |

Maybe midnight international could have been a shop who installed the kit. |
It's hard to place a pair fogs on the 370z's front end and make it still look amazing imo.

now.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...vil202/fog.jpg this is probably the best spot for a fog light and as you can see, only a tiny fog light can fit in it unless you have them custom made/fitted now imagine the output of the headlights and the fog lights, the fog lights will be two tiny dots at night and i will not help on looks nor enhance the brightness output by a lot. IMHO |
Fog lights are kinda silly with HIDs now... most people won't need more than the light they can produce. I think every one of my pre 2006 cars I have owned came with fogs (or the option for) but manufacturers are dropping it since they are sort of unnecessary I guess.

Maybe a small pair of driving lights would be better? It's a narrower beam, but it would definitely reach out further than the fogs which is what it sounds like you want. You could have them angled in such a way that they light up the corners, yet with them being so low it wouldn't blind oncoming traffic.

My Take
1 Attachment(s)
I installed these in the the fang area and while there not that noticable the blue lenses blend in well
|
That looks pretty stealth and almost oem.
Big fog lights belong on rally cars IMO. |
I was thinking something like this might work:
PIAA |
Oem?
They are pretty close to what the factory would develop, I had to use ABS plastic to fill in the gaps but the plastic pannel unbolts from the inside. PIAA didn't have anything that would fit this application, I have a set of their driving lights on my other car, they were expensive, but good quality. I had used French CIBIE's on a previous car with great success also

Unfortunately though, the snout of a Z car is all crushable plastic as per European pedestrian standards. There is literally no place to have a solid attachment unless you fabricate an internal support cage off the radiator mount, etc. So good fogs or drivers are probably out of the picture unless you're doing major front-end changes anyways. Incidentally, if you can figure out the mount, it's the easiest thing in the world to hook up a light array with Hella relays. Most sets will be 55-watt (not 35 like your HIDs). Even PIAAs are better than OEM fogs, but I prefer Bosch. (I also have a set of soda-glass Cibies waiting for my next monster SUV. :) ) |
My last 3 cars, 2006 Charger R/T, 2008 CTS and 2009 Mazda 6 all had foglights. The CTS and the 370 really don't need them because of the efficiency of the head lamps. With the others they definitely helped fill in the dark areas on the ground just in front of the hood line. If you do get fogs, try and match the bulb's color temperature with the headlamps. IMO, for appearance, yellowish fogs with white head lamps just don't look right. For practicality, lower color temperature is probably better in fog. Also keep in mind, more power = more load.

this is probably the most id do to a stock 370z bumper and they arent fog lights...
