I did remove them. The hats, I believe I broke the mounts, but they still go back on...I didn't have to use any double sided tape or anything. The Tach comes off easily too...just have to pop the outer gauge sides and remove 2 screws.

Carbon Fiber Film | Dedicated To Selling 3M Carbon Fiber DI-NOC Vinyl I got the one for $60/8sqft and it was more than enough. It already has the self adhesive backing - so no need to use any spray glue.

It works well...and the more you do, the more you understand how to get it done right. You definitely want the wrap heated well and it will stretch nicely.

Very nice. Good job!!

Astrosfan 10-12-2011 10:40 AM

Looks Great!!!

ive been having a hard time wrapping anything with that stuff. It seem brittle but im probably doing something wrong. Wish i had the skills to wrap some interior pieces!

gurneyeagle 10-12-2011 10:42 AM

Outstanding job!

I'm going to play with mine this weekend. I think the hardest part of the process is gaining enough confidence to disassemble the interior pieces.

I'm confident I can get the center stack fascia covered, I'm just gun shy taking it all apart.

You need to heat it up really well. Use a heat gun...I tried using my wifes hair dryer but that wasn't hot enough.

Let me get up to speed with this stuff, and I'll be glad to help you with your car. From everything I've read, it just takes a little patience and the right tools.

I just picked-up a new heat gun from Home Depot last week, so I think I'm good to go - famous last words.

Nope...didn't end up needing to.

SPOHN 10-12-2011 05:52 PM

Very impressive.

Does anyone know if the bezels around the gauges just pop off?

haitech 10-13-2011 01:07 AM

how would you go about wrapping around corners? is it that pliable when heated? ie. door handle

Jordo! 10-13-2011 08:13 AM

Looks very good

GaleForce 10-13-2011 01:51 PM

Looks awesome! I've been wanting to do something like that on my Tach cover, just wasn't sure how it come apart. I'll definitely have to try now.

Sorry, that's the only DYI I've seen on the tach cover; nothing on the gauge hats.

All I've ever heard about the hats are that they break when you take them off. Easy to put back with double sided tape.

The other gauges faces are part of a plate that spans the tach. I doubt if anyone is going to have success wrapping that - too many complex curves.

If you look closely at the OP's shifter ring, it looks like part of the Di-Noc is not settled - it's pulled-up. That's another tough one to wrap. Apologies if that isn't the case OP.

I purchased the CF covers for the tach, door switches and tops of the gauges from CarbonSignal in the matte finish. So far, I haven't seen any installed pictures of the matte finish, but I'm anxious to see how it looks. WHen I get the pieces installed, I'll post some pictures.

I may start trying to wrap some of the HVAC/radio/nav faceplates this weekend with the Di-Noc.

uhhhh... but his shifter is in neutral.... was he hypermiling then? :icon17:

Astrosfan 10-25-2011 04:35 PM

Kenchan: didnt you wrap your door pieces? did you wrap the vinyl around the plates? I tried this a few months ago and it looked like sh!t. I was considering doing it again but just cutting at the end of the plate, if that makes any sense?

But in the picture of the tach you can see the rpms around 2K and the speedometer about 35mph. Also, you can see the grass blurred in the photo of the hats.

I need to start playing with this stuff. I am always impressed by people's outcomes.

I finally ordered some last night. Should give me something to play with this weekend. :happydance:

TongMan 10-25-2011 05:46 PM

Looking good. I've exhaust my supply of dinoc, so I'll have to order another roll.
