Certain angle of the FT 86 II..

is it me or does it look like a Z from this angle?

Maybe a little. Looks more like a cross between Hyundai Tiburon and a Lexus IS250 than a Z to me.

Stinks likes a scion....

Lug 09-02-2011 09:29 AM

Honestly, looks more 350Z that 370Z to me.

original 86 design on top of 370z.

toxik 09-02-2011 09:50 AM

lmao, I love how people hate on it just because they decided to put a scion badge on it. car still looks good, and I'm sure with subbie behind it, it'll run good as well. stop hating.

Nick911sc 09-02-2011 09:54 AM

I agree, I'm actually kind of excited to see it hit the showrooms. Won't be trading in the Z for it.

somatic 09-02-2011 09:58 AM

with scion, toyota has always taken cues form other cars. just look at the tC; has aspects of many different cars on the road. Its how they put them all together that makes them look great. (in regards to the tCs and the FT-86/FR-S at least)

Nitrouz 09-02-2011 10:08 AM

I'm definitely picking one of these babies up. It'll be so fun to drive.

i'll test drive both the scion and subaru when they come out and then decide if i hate it or not. all the pictures so far have been too concept-like and i dont think they represent what the final product's going to look like.

if it looks like a Tc, then forget it. looks too cheap to me. i dont need another Fit looking car.

Apoc370z 09-02-2011 03:07 PM

I like the agressive front, how do you think it will look on a Z?

Rui Z 09-02-2011 03:14 PM

Production version is gonna be out at the Tokyo Auto Show in December. They say a few months later in the spring for showroom.

XwChriswX 09-02-2011 04:32 PM

Looks more like a G than a Z in the midsection to me, front end (of concept photos) looks more like a baby LFA.

the LFA was definitely a car they wanted to emulate.

lol but yeah, toyotas strategy is kinda like (sad to say) kias strategy: if it works for another company, try it. just look at the new camry. not necessarily a bad thing, and theyve been doing it for years, but theyre really starting to do it more and more lately

phelan 09-02-2011 04:49 PM

meh. i got the Z to be my sporty car.

i'm gonna end up picking up the WRX hatch, or i might go back down to the 2012 impreza 2.0i hatch.

lol my dad was the same way. first he wanted a new 7 series, then he wanted a porsche, then he wanted a lambo, then he want an M3, then he wanted a 6 series, then he wanted an m5, then he wanted a corvette, brought one home for the day, next morning he said he didnt want it, and came back home that night having bought it. lol

PapoZalsa 09-02-2011 05:54 PM

Other vehicle section discussion. ;)

Jordo! 09-02-2011 08:52 PM

I'm very interested in getting one as well... they claim it will have the lowest center of gravity on a production car ever. Should handle incredibly well.

I just hope it looks close to either ver. 1 or ver. 3.

Would get the Subie variant if offered with AWD or turbo... but doesn't seem to be happening.

Zaggeron 09-02-2011 09:01 PM

Looking forward to this as well as a replacement for my DD (not a replacement for the Z). The overlay picture someone posted earlier is rather misleading as the roof of the FR-S is supposed to be a couple of inches lower than the Z.

Well the overlay is from an older picture of the concept so it is not exactly to scale as many changes to the car have occurred
I would really like to see a turbo option but it seems less likely with each passing month. Though a 'STi' version has been mentioned, Subaru said it probably would stay NA RWD.

Zaggeron 09-02-2011 09:31 PM

Yea, just wanted to reinforce the point about a low center of gravity. I didn't mean to imply that Nick's overlay post was intentionally misleading just that it doesn't really give a good idea of the car's proportions.

Cell 09-03-2011 12:00 AM

Reminds me of the genesis more...

Volk Z 09-12-2011 10:25 AM

I remember reading and this car possibly being a 4 cylinder turbo... HP wasnt really discussed but it seemed like it would make a decent mark on the sports car class....

Now i just read that Subaru and Toyota-Scion plan on only coming out with a 4 cylinder NON turbo model to start.... So it will basically be a RWD TC/Celica then...

I was really liking the idea of bringing the Trueno 8-6 (aka FT86) to the states in a nice new model... I could feel like Tak on Initial D! haha
