Rear Wheel Noise Reduction?

I was washing my wells today and noticed what appears to be spray on noise reducer in the rear wheel wells. I also vaguely recall mention of the 2011 having some sort of noise reduction compared to the previous years. Do the earlier models have the same stuff? It is only in the rear wells, not the front.

I haven't heard of anything being changed for noise reduction. I sure as hell don't have any on my car. lol

hummm... i dont remember seeing that in my Z as well. but my car does have dynamat all long the trunk floor and the cavity to the driver side quarter panel that i installed. :D

Here a pic of my rear wells and it's also a 2011. Not sure if that's noise reduction though. Maybe rust. Doesn't really look like much of anything. My G37 had wheels wells that looked to be some sort of velvet material.

I was under the impression that the spary-on material in the fender wells and under the body was only for rock/weather/elements protection only.

I don't think it is intended for sound..

If you really want to reduce your noise, switch to a lower tread wear rated tire.

Ken - did you find the dynamat made a noticeable difference?

Just put a couple bankets on the floor of the cargo area if it bugs you so much.

I'm not bothered at all; I was just curious if dynamat worked. One would think the Z would be a pretty good test for it.

I always wondered what that thumping was. :roflpuke2:

Doesn't bother me at all, just curious about the spray

This is correct, if you want sound dampening you need it on the Inside of the frame. Any 'spray-on' coating is not going to be enough to counteract road noise to the level you're thinking...

somebody should try spraying Plasti Dip. I think it would help cuz that stuff is rubbery

LoL It won't do anything for sound waves, all it will do is bounce the debris back into your wheel well. :icon17:

Need to reduce road noise? Install a bumpin' stereo system. :) That definately works.

I had the car up on stands last weekend, doing the 7500 mi oil change and service check. I couldn't help but notice that the fiberglass (?) covers on the underside are like drumheads. What is their purpose? Airflow control? I am tempted to drive with them removed and see if the car is quieter.

Strap pillows to the bottom of the car.

Actually, compared to my other car this 370z is super quiet.

Just got my Z, and I notice that the road noise is rather high as well. But dynamat is heavy, I think we need to add at least 20 lbs of dynamat to the car to make a little difference. Is it worthy? I have done that to my GTR and didn't notice a big difference though. Any other lighter material available in the market?

I wonder if that might actually work?
What about a few "u-haul" type blankets cut to shape and placed under the foam in the cargo area? Kinda ghetto i know but it might be worth a shot...

didymus 09-01-2011 11:16 AM

So.. Anyone with a 2009 or 2010 have the spray?

didymus 10-14-2011 04:29 PM

Bueller?
