kinda stupid but....

I got my new Z not so long ago and it didn't come with license plate bolts.
So i go down to the auto parts store and pick up some. Wont work.
So, What do you guys use? Any links to some that might work with our 370z?
I know its kinda stupid but I need some to bolt my plate on lol.

I tapped the threaded insert to a common size bolts I had.

kenchan 07-27-2011 08:42 AM

I don't know the size off hand but you need to get a metric screw.

mmmmmm.... metric screw!

The bolts that came with my car were just regular steel bolts. Ugly as sin. I sourced a security head screw from a local parts guy/370Z owner here in town. Much better!

The pic below is to show the head... the screw I used was the correct pitch/thread for the 370Z.

Yeah, don't use that thread! But that is the head.... torx tamper-proof.

Thank you "local parts guy/370Z owner"! :icon18::hello:

kenchan 07-27-2011 10:48 AM

um i thought the plate holder points were threaded... but now that i think about it i cant remember if they were the plastic anchors or not.

SvR370z 07-27-2011 11:27 AM

I think the part I'm struggling with is the
Clips. The car had metal looking clips but
Not the bolts. it's like I just paid this much
For a car and you can't put me some bolts
There? So I need both the clamps and bolts
Or to thread those. I don't know. Like I said
Its stupid.

kenchan 07-27-2011 11:30 AM

ahh... go back to your dealer and ask for the clip anchors for your plates and screws.

did you check your trunk/glove box/secret compartment behind passenger seat? they may have put them there.

Since I don't wanted to drill my front bumper or damage it either way, I simply zip tied to my front fang :)

wouldn't that scratch your black vents though?

If you're talking about the rear plate, there are a couple of plastic toggle anchors that the plate mounts to. I just replaced the bolts in mine and they are metric, fine thread for sure. I think they are around M6-20. I took one of the anchors out, carried it up to Home Depot and matched a stainless bolt to it. Hope this helps!!

I used M6x1 bolts in mine.

Nice SS cap screws w/washers = win.

Self Tapping screws like the ones above are a good choice!

dudesky 07-28-2011 06:14 AM

kenchan- nah. not really. and I used like sponge tape to protect my fang from getting scratches :)
