Defective Fuel Sensor round 2

Here it is again, my fuel gauge is not showing I have a full tank of gas. Not all of the LEDs are lit. This is my 2nd time replacing this sensor. Who has experienced here replacing their fuel sensor more than once on their 40th?

i have, but not on a 40th. i think i'm on my 3rd. i'm wondering, how low do you let it get before a fill up?

IMHO, a pretty silly reason for going through what you've had to endure. As has been said in countless posts about this so-called "issue", Why would people be so concerned about those one or two top LED's? The really important ones on that guage are the two at the BOTTOM.

You would think (and common sense would also reveal), that one would/should be a lot more concerned with running out of fuel. And not .... "can I get a few more drops into that tank(?)".

Now, the OP has had to endure having his Z's sending unit R & R'd twice.

Silly.... just silly!!

I fill it up when I'm like 4 to 5 bulbs down, as I don't like depleting the tank.

It's just frustrating, overall it is not a big deal - but I expect great craftsmanship from a OEM and a car that has a long history and plus goes above the $30k tag. Another one is that my dealership will not cover me for a rental car, they would charge me for it plus processing fees.

usually my 370z stops at one dot from the top also. i guess im used to it cause my 350z never goes all the way up either. and neither does my 4 runner. lol.

i havent tried topping it off in the 370z yet to see if i get the last dot, but in my 4 runner, after the pump auto stops... it seems to stop prematurely and if I restart it after the fuel has settled for a moment, it will pump like a half gallon or so more in before stopping again. and then the gauge goes all the way to the top. have not tried this yet in the 370Z, as i rarely fill the it to the top since it carries like 17-18 gallons of gas, which I just *do not* need to haul around with me since i only use the car for cruising and abusing. usually just put in 9-10 gallons at most.

i get what your saying about the not letting it get low...here's the problem, mine was not showing full, fine i know i filed it. But that means it's not working correct. I was on a road trip, looked at the gauge, cool 5-6 lights on, i'll stop at the next town a fill it up, with in 30-40 miles it was empty and i'm dead on the hwy at night with nothing around. I had checked the "range" and i should have been good.

Lately, I have been also experiencing the top LED not lighting up when I fill up all the way. The funny thing is when I start up the car later the top LED is lit. It irritates me whenever it happens.

You should totally read your PM's and your For Sale thread! I want those parts for sale!

Anyway, back on topic. I just had both of my fuel sending units replaced today along with the gas tank level recalibration. My car seems to read the fuel right now. It used to tell me I had 40-50 miles left and I'd run out of gas completely. That's with 3-4 dots of gas left. OH well, hopefully it's fixed now.
