Soundproofing the wheel wells?
 

New member here. Quick intro, I drive a 2007 G35 Coupe, and am looking at my next ride.
I've been browsing this forum for a little while and last night my dealership got a yellow Z in, and I took it out for a spin.

Wow. I really like this car. Now granted it was only a short test drive as they had just received the car in and hadn't set it up in the system, and it was LOW on gas, so I couldn't test it's power or handling, but my initial impression is still one of strong like, approaching love. I really need to take a proper test drive before I plan it as a purchase.

I'd read about the rear wheel-well noise and did experience it last night, and am wondering if you could use a spray rubber of sorts (like they use in flat beds?) as a sound-dampening for the rear wells?

I was also surprised at the blind spots, they didn't really bother me all that much, nor the rear visibility (coming from a G I was used to small rear window and blind-ish spots).

I believe the rubber spray on the wheel well did very little to dampen road noise according to previous forum posts.

Damn, I thought it would have worked well. I checked around for posts on it but didn't find any.
I wonder what the effect would be on road grit making noise in the wells?
(I will search around a bit more ;) )

You honestly get used to it, and it's not that bad.

My G does pick up some noise from the rear wells, not sure if it's equal, less or greater than the Z's. It's not a deal breaker by any stretch, just curious if there is a solid fix.

I'm planning to do an interior sound insulation with Second Skin Damplifier. It helped tremendously on my Vette (Pic below), and should help on the Z. On the wheel well "Tinking" the tread wear rating on these tires is only 140, so they're picking up everythng on the road. They also STICK to the road pretty well...Everything is a trade-off...:tup:

I think about a solution to this issue almost every other day. The density of the rubberized sprayed on undercoating is simply too thin by those who have tried this solution to date, and they have not sprayed enough to actual buildup the material. There are systems such as the Duplicolor undercoating where you actually use a compressor driven gun to spray on several mils of thickness. In my searching there was one person on a forum whom was obsessive about reducing noise, and he referenced that on a limited edition Mazda, Mazda used some sort of felt to line the fenders and it worked well. I have been searching for a material that can be easily applied along the felts lines.

Only way you are going to get rid of that road noise is to put some Luxury Liner in the trunk. Best to use is the Luxury Liner from Second Skin Audio
