Painted Door Handles installed

I had a new set of OEM door handles color matched the same color as my Z. I hate how they are silver from the factory. Just figured id post some pics incase anyone else is considering this. I think it looks far better.

Blends in much better

Red__Zed 05-11-2011 08:37 PM

I'm toying with the idea of doing the same thing. Looks great!

Baer383 05-11-2011 08:53 PM

It looks good, but over time from grabbing the handles the paint starts to wear quickly that is the only reason why I haven't done mine.

I have seen them first hand they look funny worn.

Lemers 05-11-2011 09:17 PM

So would powder coating the be better on the handles

Can't power coat the handles are plastic:shakes head:

Lemers 05-11-2011 09:22 PM

Extreme heat used in powder coating?

Baer383 05-11-2011 09:30 PM

You would have to ask Mike but I'm pretty positive you will have more than plastic can handle.

powdercoating doesnt work on plastic because essentially you charge the powder which then sticks to the metal, which is normally grounded so it would attract the charged powder.

Maybe the handle wasnt prepped properly. Just about every single car has painted door handles. They dont have a problem

I'm guessing you went to an automotive paint shop to do it... How long were they off the car? Did they paint the non exposed areas as well or will there be silver showing if you open the handle?

Chrono_30 05-12-2011 12:34 PM

Looks good man! Color matched handles are the way to go

I bought brand new handles from FBnissan, and had them painted there at the dealer before shipping. There are not any areas that are still silver. EVERYTHING was sprayed. :)

This is an ancient post but your nissan dealer was able to paint your door handles there? How much did that run you for the pair?

My body shop guy said something similar to this when I told him I wanted to paint the door handles.

Seems so many people have done this and I would be surprised that people would go ahead with this mod if that was truly the case.

I've read through threads on the subject and haven't seen many people stating they had a problem.

It's mid 2017 - has anyone who painted there door handles in the past had any issues and regret it ?

I did a DIY on painting the door handles a while back & haven't had any problems with them at all. If it is done correctly they will last.

You might want to check out my DIY here http://www.the370z.com/3574232-post1.html

If you would like to see some present day photos of the handles, let me know.

I am a few years into my handles being painted and they look like they did the day they were painted.

Nope, sprayed mine myself using properly autobody grade materials and haven't had a problem whatsoever. Sounds like he just doesn't want to do it.

ufoz8mycow 07-04-2017 09:18 PM

I've had mine color matched for years without an issue. That body shop doesn't know how to paint if they think all painted door handles will fade. There are thousands of cars that come from the factory with painted handles.

socce 07-08-2017 10:18 AM

Thank you for your input guys. Based off this, I will try to make this happen.
