Do you both realize that the reason we have this forum is to share information and improve it?

SPOHN 05-09-2011 05:52 PM

Um... you guys realize this is funny.

Hy Baer I changed my setup to the one your were mentioning. Very clean look now. Thanks.

I believe I read in modshacks diy he had a issue with the back of the hood being slightly up b/c of the black covers, what I'm saying is where I put the ball I don't have that problem.

I tried it with the same front bracket you guys used in the same place you guys put it,and my hood was up a little bit in the back until I relocated the ball.

If you & modshack didn't have a problem then more power to you but if you read above SPOHN has the same front bracket as you and is relocating it to where I put mine hence "correcting other people's work".

kenchan 05-09-2011 06:10 PM

Yah it worked fine on my car. only reason I took it off is im doing the CF battery/brake res covers soooon.

Hey guys I make these for guys here around the area. I fab a mounting bracket that attaches at the hood lift points therefor elimating pressure on the hood. There is no cutting only taking two bolts off where the hood attaches and place this bracket on there and then removing a plastic pop washer in the front of the battery/power steering cover. no cutting or drilling needed. I have a couple of these left over and willing to sell them for 60.00 plus shipping. PM me if interested and I can send you some pics.

Any pics?

Lemers 05-09-2011 06:47 PM

Pics loose and installed would be great

theDreamer 05-09-2011 06:55 PM

Had the ones kenchan did his DIY with but I cannot move the mounting point & drill because I have the password jdm pieces. Since I could not move it my hood started to bulge which then I required me to take off the hood dampers.

kellyefields 05-09-2011 07:01 PM

I will post some pics tomorrow when I get off work. These should work with the JDM pieces as well. They do not interfere with those pieces. Please pm me and I will make sure you get those pics as well.

Why PM secrecy...? Can't you just post them for everyone to see (who might be interested)?

kellyefields 05-09-2011 07:28 PM

no secret I just want to make sure that those that asked first have first dibs if they choose. I will be posting them in a for sale thread sometime tomorrow evening when I get off work.

ok guys here are the pics on my car. as you can see this kit consists of 2 hood dampners, 2 brackets and the associated bolts. No cutting or drilling is necessary. just unbolt 2 nuts from the hoods hinges and remove one of the plastic pop rivit from the front of the plastic covers. I currently have mine off due to them being fiberglassed but you get the idea. the hole is already there and all you have to do is put a nut on the bottom of the wheel well which may require jacking up the car to give you the room to put your hand in there but no cutting and no problem with clearances. I am asking 70$ shipped. the hood dampners cost 23 each and the brackets and bolts a few bucks more and approx 10 for the shipping tube and postage so as you can see I am just trying to get my money back and a few bucks for my trouble. I currently have 2 that I made for some local guys but they never paid me and I can make one extra from extra material I have on hand.. First come first serve.

Baer383 05-10-2011 06:41 PM

Where are the plastic covers for the brake, battery?

kellyefields 05-10-2011 06:45 PM

I currently have them off trying to fiberglass them. I am trying to do the poor mans JDM Carbon fiber covers. lol but these do fit with the covers on.

SPOHN 05-10-2011 07:28 PM

I'm not to fond of the bracket for the hood support. Looks bulky.

kenchan 05-10-2011 07:39 PM

hummmm... PM'ed dreamer. :D

kellyefields 05-10-2011 08:04 PM

For those that thought the first ones were two bulky here are some better pic and I trimmed the fat so you can see the difference.

Bringing this thread back. I've noticed there are some aftermarket hood dampers out there, Z1, TheZStore, Kelleyfields, others? Has anyone tried any of these, and which one is the best/doesn't bulge the hood. I'm looking to getting some, but I'll live with the stock hood rod if these options bend the hood.

Chuck33079 01-15-2013 08:26 AM

I've got the Z1 struts. No noticable bulging. They fit great and installed in 20 minutes. I bought a set from the Z Store previously, and they were nowhere close to fitting right. Ended up using those for another car.

TheGreatOne 01-15-2013 08:56 AM

I think the Z1 set can also close halfway if you want....been looking at those myself.

SPOHN 01-15-2013 10:10 AM

In going to have mine up for sale this weekend. Half the price of new ones.

Thanks Chuck I just ordered them from Z1 today.

I had to jack up the front end and turn the wheel to get the bottom nut on, but you may not need to if your car isn't lowered or you have small hands. Other than that, it shouldn't take you longer than 25 minutes or so even stopping for a beer between sides.
