What is the best way to install this add on spoiler? Double sided type? Any suggestion guys!!:):happydance:

GaleForce 12-28-2012 10:34 AM

Get some Norton SpeedGrip or something like it (like 3M's version)

Id suggest 3m double sided tape and some 3m adhesive promotor wipes. The promotor wipes are key if you want to make sure the spoiler, front lip and rear diffuser stay on the car. I may be able to grab some of the wipes if you need them. Just send me a PM if you need some.

So I need to go Home Depot to get 3d sided tape and the 3m adhesive promoter. Clean the surface with promoter then apply the double sided tape? Let me know buddy. Thanks a lot!!:) kinda worries about the front and the rear lip. The rear need to be partial paint before the install. How much does it cost to paint 2 sides of the rear lip? Any idea? Thanks a lot guys!!:):bowrofl:

GaleForce 12-28-2012 11:09 AM

Hopefully your front lip fits better than mine. I had a 2" gap on the drivers side. There was no way double sided tape would hold that.

Very serious. They told me it would fit better if I tried to install it with the bumper off. It didn't. The fit was the same. I used Norton SpeedGrip and 6 clamps.

Check the link to my build thread in my sig for pictures.

Yeah, make sure you clean any area that will touch the double sided tape well before applying the promotor, then apply the promotor to that same area. You'll need a few packets of it for everything you’ll be installing. Id grab 10 or so just to be safe. You'll also want to test fit the pieces well before applying anything, cause once you use the promotor its near impossible to remove the pieces. I had alot of trouble installing my rear spats simply because of the flex in the bumper. Id suggest taking the whole rear bumper off to install the diffuser. It makes the whole process a lot easier. I’ll post a pic of what I did. As far as paint, id suggest painting the whole thing first, that’s what I did and it turned out fine.

I have the same carbon signal lip and had heard about gap issues as well, however I had mine professional molded to the front bumper. That said I wasn’t made aware of any fitment issues.

Here's a pic. I used two saw horses and c clamps to hold it while the spats set.

I doubt home depot would have it. I also doubt autozone or a similar store would have it. Your best bet would be an automotive paint and supply specialty store. I think amazon has it as well. Like i said, if you need some let me know, there is a place not far from me that has it and i can grab it for you and put it in the mail tomorrow. They typically cost $3-$3.50 a packet.

Looks like that is a paint promoter. I dont think it is the same thing, plus id be concerned about spraying something like that on my car. If its anything like the 3M stuff it’ll leave a white residue which you can’t get off the car. The 3M stuff comes on a sponge and makes application extermely easy.

Whichever route you go you need to test fit and mask the area of the bumper where you don’t want adhesion. I used regular blue painters tape and that worked great.

Yeah u was right. I'm planning to test it on plastic and wait if have the white stuffs. I don't want to repaint my spoiler or bumper. And I also plan to spray on sponge or rug then apply to the area I needed after the test fit and the test of the can. Thanks for the advice buddy. Truly appriciated. :bowrofl:

I can only comment on the rear spoiler, but hope this helps.

First off buy the 3M VHB (very heavy bond) double sided tape. Also get a tube (for a caulk gun) of builder's adhesive caulk.

Now begin at the end of one side ON THE TOP SIDE of the spoiler and place the tape on the leading edge of the spoiler and work your way to the other side. You will have to rip (cut down the middle to make it narrower) the tape around the curves of the spoiler. It is very important to get a contiguous line of tape along the leading edge. Lay down a second row of tape directly behind the first.

Next, lay down a heavy bead of caulk into the inside crease (the back edge inside the spoiler). Don't be shy.

Now, just peel off the tape backing, and carefully slide the ducktail onto the factory spoiler, all the while trying to keep the tape from making contact until the last second.

There is no need to apply tape to the underside, bottom part of the spoiler as it will simply pull away the top as the piece heats and cools.

I learned all this the SECOND time I attached my spoiler. Ater six months, it is still not going anywhere.

Good luck!

Forget the double sided tape. mold it FTW.

I installed mine with double sided tape at Home Depot. Get the heavy duty one for indoor and outdoor. Clean the factory spoiler with soap and warm water then do another clean with alcohol. Wipe it down then that's it! I tape it just on the top of factory spoiler. Seem to be fine with 110 mph. Just tried it for 2 mins. And seem to be fine. I don't want to put a lot of double sided tape. Just in case I need to take it off in future so don't have to give myself a hard time or crack anything. 😁

Side note: I'll be out of town for a few days and only have my phone not my laptop. I will do my best to help anyone and everyone in any way that I can. I just wanted to put that out there so no one thinks i'm ignoring them.

Thanks again....Don@CS

What do you guys think will look better on a pw with an amuse body, spoiler painted pw or cf? This is something I plan on doing in the future but I'm not sure what will look and flow better lol

If your going Amuse with CF trim then a CF Type-N spoiler would work great. If not then painted to match would be the way to go.

6MT-Z34 09-26-2013 06:27 PM

Thanks! thats the route I plan on going hopefully in a few months. Hope you guys don't stop making these kits lol
