front lip scraping
 

Does anyone else have this problem? I live in a pretty hilly area, and the bottom plastic lip scrapes constantly. Its starting to look like one of those street hockey stickswith all of the rubbing it gets on the road.

My question is, has anyone done anything to ease the damage? And if I just remove it, will I notice much of a difference in air flow?

My Z actually came without the front spoiler since my dealership was too lazy to install it. :ugh2: But I feel no difference without it in terms of airflow.

After going on coilovers and a 1" drop, I can say that hills suck lol The left/right front corners of my front bumper are a little charred on the underside. It's one of the minus' of having a lowered car.

Your car will flip at speed if u take it off!

:D just remove it. You'll have to drill out the rivets.

I took the spoiler and the tire flaps off. Made my lowered car more drivable.

This is random -- I was thinking the same thing today on the way home (i'm in KY -- very hilly). Mine is pretty jacked up!

Taking off the front chin spoiler won't affect the car's stability, you can definitely remove it. I though about removing the flaps in front of the front wheels but honestly, I prefer them there even if they scrape as they are a good way of warning you if you are getting too close to scraping the actual bumper if you have to get up a steep incline.

if you're scraping like crazy and you're not dropped? You need to learn to approach driveways at an angle whenever possible to minimize scrapes. Thats the normal driving habit of owning a low center of gravity sports car.

Yup, approach slowly and at an angle...try to get close to a 45 degree angle when possible.

I refer to my sport lip as my as my undercarriage protector. Id rather scrape it as a warning than rip thru other stuff.

going over a bump is easy, what about a ditch lol. freaking SF has canyons on each side of the road to act as a "ditch"

you guys are almost psychic in knowing that it's mostly my driveway giving me the issue lol.

This is a constant annoyance until you slowly scrape away enough chin spoiler until you can not hear it. Then if you are like me you lower your car half an inch and it starts up all over again.

The spoiler plays no role in my life so I am sure it could be removed without a hitch. I consider the damage as a badge of honor as it only scrapes when I go around climbing or descending turns, or fast straights and a slamming effect occurs.

the right side of my chin spoiler looks about a half inch shorter than my left side... and I only have 1500 miles on the car.

Meh... if you're not scraping then you're not low enough.

+3 on using more angle in inclines or declines, that helps big time!

i simply take a razor every once in a while to take care of the fuzz

The stock chin spoiler is a "sacrificial anode." I scraped mine leaving the dealership 5 minutes after I bought it. Sometimes you have no choice.

The only time/place I scrape is pulling out the driveway onto the street due to the steepness of the driveway. No issue pulling in.

To remedy the problem, I now back out the driveway.

Here is how I fixed the problem while maintaining the function of having it as a warning device to let me know when I am too close. I use to scrape all the time now just when I am getting close.
