Painting the NISMO?

I'm about to purchase a black NISMO 370 and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to paint it? I like black but my last 3 cars were black and its getting old fast. I really would prefer it to be white. Is there a certain package of quality that I need to aim for and what ball park range would that cost? Thanks for your help.

Its too hard to pass up the deal I got for what I was offered and NISMO Z's don't come around too often if you know what I mean.

hdskull 04-20-2011 11:33 PM

I think you should just leave it. It's not worth it to spend 3k for a paint job. You'll like the black as you get used it. I really wanted a white z, but got the black one. I don't regret a thing.

Synack 04-20-2011 11:37 PM

Alright, I'll take that into consideration and leave it how it is and reevaluate after a few months.

Thanks for your advice.

Waiz 04-20-2011 11:59 PM

Wait for a white one

A good paint job is at least $3K

metz 04-21-2011 01:07 AM

It'll be more than that to do it right.
Why not just have them find you a white one?

Nismo221 04-21-2011 01:35 AM

The dealer can just find you a white one if thats what you want. When dealing with car salesmen never settle for anything. Make them get you exactly what you want. When I bought mine all he had was a red one so I made him find a PG cause thats the color I wanted.

Jose Aliling 04-21-2011 01:48 AM

why not wrap your car with vinyl?if you just want to change color without affecting the original paint.just my two cents.

metz 04-21-2011 02:02 AM

A wrap will run in the 2500-3500 range. If something isn't what you want ask for it. They may trade cars with another dealer.

hdskull 04-21-2011 02:16 AM

Oh, you didn't buy it yet. If you didn't buy it, then find EXACTLY what you want. If you pass up on this deal, there will always be other deals that come along. On the day I bought my car, Danny from Fontana called me and told me 2 white ones came in... Just wait it out if they don't have exactly what you want.

Carbon_z 04-21-2011 02:26 AM

you guys obviously have never heard of Maaco's.... $299 MAX sucka's :)

Don't exaggerate man. It's $700 to buy a full wrap for the car and $1000 for labor which will take a whole day. And the material btw is 3M quality.

Kingbaby 04-21-2011 03:29 AM

Just get a white one and no good paint job cost 3k...

docaam 04-21-2011 04:24 AM

wrap is not that expensive, agree 700$ is the cost of the wrap. But at this point when you haven't bought it yet better buy what you really want

metz 04-21-2011 04:44 AM

Pricings all about where your at. The point is though he hasn't bought the car yet.

Synack 04-21-2011 07:41 AM

Well the car is virtually unbeatable at the price that it is at. $30k for a 2010 with 16k miles. So I can't really turn it down.

I agree. A GOOD paint job will run $5k+ at least.

Also, a wrap might not be a bad idea if you absolutely HAVE to get this one.

Carbon_z 04-21-2011 08:10 AM

i would just sell it and find the color you want.... you wont lose that much since it will be almost like a swap....i honestly think that's the best because once you paint your car, its depreciating BIG TIME due to paint work on every panel and it wont be perfect like Nissan paints them since they spray the shell and frame with nothing in the way...im sure your going to have old paint somewhere on that car....not worth it.

bullitt5897 04-21-2011 09:24 AM

I do wraps in the ATL area and if your looking to change color this is the best way possible! Your looking at about $1700 installed depending on color. You can PM me if that is the route you want to go. I also work with ArtCraft Collision out in smyrna they do all my work and really do an amazing Job!!! Pearl White is one of the hardest colors to match cause its a 3 stage pearl and they did it perfect everytime! They also have good prices let me know what you want to do and I will see if I can get you a discount.

That's definitely not unbeatable.

Well I mean its the lowest price by far that I've seen for 2010 NISMO's. Hey if anyone's willing to beat it then let me know please!

That's a phenominal offer right there from a company I hear alot of great things about. With that said OP, go for matte wrap!

metz 04-21-2011 05:39 PM

Bullit will take care of you, very trustworthy dude. Ill be honest though I dont think that price is outstanding for 16k miles, when Im sure their are still new ones on the lots. Hell we had a white 09 on one of our local lots up till 3months ago.

JayYoon 04-21-2011 07:44 PM

I would just get a used white base 2010 370z nismo (16k miles) and get all s tune... it should still be cheaper...

Well heck, if you know of a NISMO in red, white, or black and its under this price with same or less miles then let me know! I need a dealership though for payments.

happytheman 04-21-2011 11:52 PM

Get pre-approved by a credit union or bank and you don't have to get the loan at the dealership. I bought my '09 w/ 10k miles w/ a 3.74% apr through my credit union! Check Cars.com, Autotrader.com and Carmax.com. You'll be amazed at what you can find with a little research and patience. Get what you really want and you wont have to spend good money for paint which will decrease your vehicles value. Spend the $3k for some a CAI and CBE! ;)

tjlazer 04-22-2011 10:41 AM

I was faced with a similar delema. I wanted a Nismo Z. But I wanted a Blue Z more. I though about it and when I found a Base Z with Sports package for below invoice I jumped on it. I am now doing the full Nismo body conversion and mods... Better than painting a brand new car.... no thanks.

The only thing I'm slightly confused about this whole thing is, minus all miscellaneous expenses it basically comes down to:

Car price
Sales tax
APR
Interest Rate
Trade in value
Down payment

Right?

Or is the APR the same exact thing as the Interest Rate?

I'm trying to figure out what exactly my costs will be with:

$30k 370Z
$6000 trade in car
7% sales tax
No down payment
I believe 2.9% APR
Interest Rate?

tjlazer 04-22-2011 02:02 PM

^yes its the same thing. 2.9 is great btw

metz 04-22-2011 02:06 PM

2.9 is very good. Here use a payment calculator
Auto loan calculator - Bankrate.com

Synack 04-22-2011 02:07 PM

Thank you.

Well my father is high up at Lexus and he can pull in cars and sell to family for inventory price and with low APR's and dealer fees (if any). So I'm considering myself very lucky.

happytheman 04-22-2011 05:31 PM

Yep, APR (annual percentage rate) is the same as interest rate. O/T Question: what's up with the TCP handshake?
