Rear bumper removal?
 

I tried doing a search and had no luck....but anyways I have the amuse replica from shine auto sitting in the garage and wanted to put it on and test fit it, then drive it to the shop to get it painted. Does anyone know of a DIY to remove the stock rear bumper, or even better yet, one to install the amuse?

I guess there is no DIY! Care to make one? I also need to do this. I might give it a go but I want some pointers.

welll.....

jack up the car...take off rear tires.
unscrew all the nuts and bolts.
Unplug all the wiring for the fog light.
Lift up rear hatch..take out side panels in rear.
unplug the tail lights and unscrew them.
take out rear bumper
replace with new bumper
add all nuts and bolts back
put back tailights and fog light
modify tire lining in rear
i think thats it ....

not as detail but just a rough draft

jack up the car...take off rear tires.
Remove rear wheel well liners (just some clips).
unscrew all the nuts (i think there was only 2 one at the top one at the bottom).
Unplug all the wiring for the fog light.
Lift up rear hatch..take out side panels in rear first the one in the very back, then the two that cover the rear struts (they have clips that look like a spot a bungie cord can hook to.
unscrew the tail lights two on top one inside you cant get to until you remove the trunk plastic liners.
unplug tail lights and set them aside.
remove body clips on top of the bumper think there was like 4-6 of them, and one on the bottom under the fog light.
pull off bumper not to far because you have to unplug the trunk buttons and plate light unit.
reverse order to put it back

I am pretty sure everything was 10mm nuts/bolts except the inside nut holding in the tail lights it was like an 8m I think.

Why do you have to remove the rear wheels and fender liner?

There is a bolt/screw that is inside the wheel wells.

I got the rear bumper off and the new one test fitted. You dont NEED to jack the car up and remove the rear wheels. It technically makes it easier, but if you have your gf around to hold a flashlight for you, and you can fit underneath your car from the rear, you can do it without the hassle of jacking the car and removing rear rims. I did it with ease. Ordering vinyl wrap material today, hopefully the car will be back together in a week or two!

So removal of the tail lights is necessary? Man I hate taking out the sub enclosure and removing the hatch panels just to do anything. :shakes head:

^yes as there are clips under the lights you need to remove.

I dont think I ever said you had to remove the rear tires, just the wheel well liner.

The reason I say do that is the extra 15 minutes it takes to jack up the car and remove two wheels can probably save you 30 minutes of fighting around a tire. Also if the car is lowered and the wheels are tucked it would be even more difficult.

I have learned in the past from doing a lot of work on heavy equipment not to be afraid of removing things to get extra space to work in. It makes jobs sooooo much easier.

Removing the wheels a hassle????? Dude you just took the entire rear bumper off of the car! Look at everything else you had to take out to do that lol!

Anyway im glad you got it but I really do suggest to anyone else to take the extra time removing the wheels.

ok where is a good place to put jack stands for the rear? I never could find a good place.

Im not sure if im calling this the right name or not, but I put it on the stabilizer bar. The side closest to the side/tire right on the bolt. Is that the right place though? I dont know, just how I have been doing it. It also has not damaged the bolt.

damn it really seems there is not a good spot for rear jack stands...

Then again, you can use the silver aluminum spring purch but the wheels would compress some due to the springs, which would negate this for the rear bumper install anyways...
