Does the rubber on the front of the V1 unit still touch the windshield? I had a Blendmount in my Z06 and got rid of it because in the Z06, it did not, and it vibrated all over the place compared to the rock-solid suction cup mount.

I have the other one (non-blendmount) and mine does not touch the screen at all.
Mine will rattle a little if it sits in the hot sun for more than 4 hours as the plastic heats up and expands a little it seems. Not a huge issue as after you just touch the unit it stops.

On the hiding the unit. I have been researching taking the v1 concealed unit and ripping out the hardware and mounting it in the rearview mirror and mounting the v1 unit in the rear middle. This would provide a good bit of front radar detection and the same rear detection. Only thing I am still researching is the controls so you can have quick access.

Just an example of what it could look like:

If you take of the little swiffel mount that's on the lighter adapter, it's a perfect fit to clamp in the vent.

I put on a little athletic tape to make sure it fit snug and it stays in place without any problems.

On my vette I mounted it high up and ran a 5% tint strip. Keeps it a ton cooler, its invisible, and works great.

these detectors can withstand heat like hot potato's. in the summer time it gets SUPERHOT... like so hot i can't hold it in my hand. but that's normal operating temp for it. no issues the last 7-8yrs of ownership. :)

Does the mirror vibrate more with the V1 mounted there? It did in my 'vette, and I promptly removed it and installed it with the suction cups and was much happier.

Not really. Get it above 120*F and it will glitch out in many tests I have seen. You may have gotten lucky, but you are operating beyond the parameters it is made for and you need to keep that in mind. I run a 5% ceramic tint strip to keep mine cool. Works very well.

Has anyone tried the V1 attachment that powers it from the OBD-II port? The accessory also provides a dial to keep the unit quiet when you are travelling under a certain speed that you set.

I went with an Escort 8500 (I think it is) in the Challenger and hard wired it to the rear view using the Blendmount. I love the mount, but I made my own cable out of a left over phone cord. You don't need the $20 cable.

that's freakin awesome! sounds like it would be perfect for mini-mall parking lots with all the automatic door openers that make the X-band alerts go crazy.

i think i'll have to put that on my list to toys to buy....

Here is is: https://store.valentine1.com/Store/
It's called Savvy.

You can also buy it as a package deal with the V1.

I am seriously thinking about getting a V1.. but I have never spent that much on a radar detector before..not sure

Speedy 03-15-2012 11:28 AM

Well, I will say this. The Escort 8500 in my Challenger was expensive at $400. However, it flat works. Picks up radar and laser signals from very far distances.

Having said that, I got a ticket in the Challenger about a year ago. Detector did it's thing, I wasn't speeding, but was pulled over anyway. Had a witness in the car etc. Explained to the officer we had seen him, and pointed out the detector.

Keep in mind the Challenger is bright orange with black racing stripes, loud exhaust, whining super charger, etc.

I won't go in to the whole story, but I did my due diligence, subponea'd a boat load of information from the police department. Had two separate days in court (the first time the officer showed up without subponea'd docs and judge wouldn't dismiss the case and gave him another chance which was BS).

In the end I argued my case for an hour on two separate occasions. Long story short, they still found me guilty. I called my witness and the whole deal.

I ended up getting traffic school by request even though it wasn't supposed to be allowed if I contested. The judge said I had one of the most well planned and executed speeding ticket defenses she'd ever seen....but just smirked when I asked why then was I still found guilty. It's a racket plain and simple.

I almost appealed, but I'd made them run around in circles for hours, had the police chief and lieutenant show up, etc so yes they got some money from me, but I made it a PITA for them and they had to earn it. I figured that was good enough for a ticket that wasn't going on my record anyway. I even plea bargained down the court costs and traffic school fees threatening to have them put me on a $10 a month payment plan LOL

Moral of the story, yes a radar detector helps, but if they wanna get you they will.

EazyD 03-17-2012 01:16 AM

Well... you guys did it.

You made me purchase a V1. ಠ_ಠ
How could you!!!
