Recording of sound from cabin, please help!
1 Attachment(s)
I'm relatively new to the forums. I just purchased a new 2010 370z 6MT (Black Cherry) two weeks ago and I'm going crazy trying to locate where this sounds is coming from. I've done many searches on the forum and I've read numerous posts on installing sound deadening material. If this exact issues has already been addressed I apologize. I've attached a recording of a crackling / rattling noise coming from the inside of my car behind the seats somewhere in the back. I took out the mats and all the tools for changing the tire along with the plastic surround along the bottom of the top hatch but I can't seem to pinpoint where this is coming from. I read some posts talking about an issue in the headliner but I don't think this is it. Any input would be appreciated.

Find a safe road and have somebody lay down and ride in your hatch to better locate the source of the noise. The only one I am familiar with is the headliner rattle which I believe I am getting myself, but have yet to fix. If it does end up being the headliner then refer to Schrute's journal on how to fix it, he provides very good DIY's.

Ok so I took your advice and jackpot! I just had my friend at work drive me around while I was stuck in the back and it turns out the metal latch on the hatch near the tail light that holds the hatch closed was the culprit. I could not locate the sounds at first because of the echoes but I noticed it stopped if I pushed up hard on the hatch glass. We pulled over and popped the hatch and looked around and I noticed that wiggling the hatch latch :icon17: made the same noise. I'm going to Home Depot to get a set or Torx wrenches. After removing most of the stuff in the back I'm thinking about doing some sounds deadening myself now.

DUDE, I just fixed that same problem. I listened to your audio file and it was the very same exact damned noise. I took me a week of time tearing out different stuff and digging around before I finally layed down there myself with someone driving so I could pin point the noise. I know it was coming from the hatch area but mine went away when I adjusted the latch level on the metal panel its mounted to. Yours had a loose hatch latch? The little metal ring?

Any pics?

Tri- wire up your rear camera and fog lamp while you're at it too. :icon17:

Kudos to you for contorting yourself into the back hatch area to find that rattle! I'd have laughed my a$$ off if I saw you guys driving around with you wedged in the back.

Here is a picture. I removed the black plastic that is covering the torx40 bolts holding the latch/loop on and tightened them down. No more rattle!

I was looking at mine this morning when I was getting in the car for work, it looks like its slightly bent to the left. Is yours straight up and down, perpendicular with the hatch or does it look like its got a slight draw to the left?
|
I'm pretty sure it is straight but I'll take some more pictures. The thing is already rattling again so I'm guessing I need some lock-tite or some rubber to put in between the latch and the screws to stop the noise from happening.
|
So my car now makes that noise when it's cold out. Found that out tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to stop by my work and pick up tools for my latch. Mine doesn't seem loose but its deff making the same noise.

It's not coming from my latch. I'm going to have to fiddle around with a couple other things. Damn this is aggravating.
|
A couple of spots that I am getting rattle from is in the headliner from the mirror wiring. Another annoying spot is the rear passenger side compartment.
I bought some felt tape, so hopefully it'll resolve the rattle issues. |
I've also got the exact same rattle going on. I've suspected that it might be a "hatch latch" issue.
I need to physically lift up on the latch when I push the release button to get it to come free and open. Can everybody else just push the button and have it come free? I knew there must be some kind of latch issue going on and the rattle is probably another sign of it.... |
