Radar Detector for XMAS
Ok, here is the deal. I need a Radar detector and I have a few in mind. I have seen most of 'Radar Roy's' Youtube vid's and vid's from others. Using this and threads on other sites I have narrowed my chooses to 3 options. I am listing them in order of most interested to least interested.
1st, Escort RedLine Ultimate Performance Dual-Antenna Radar Detector 2nd, Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector 3rd, Valentine One Radar Detector In addition, to those that will say the Redline has no laser detection. I will be investing in a 'Blinder M47 X-treme Laser Jammer' down the road. Please give me you opinions and recommendations. |
V1 blend moun t and invisicord. in both my G37S and FX50S. would not have it any other way
|
V1 or bust
|
V1 is the way to go. beeping detector without knowing where the signal is coming from is not as effective.
|
What ever you do don't buy the Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector, Ive gone through 3 units already & all of them have broken.
|
my 15+ yr old 7500 still works. :D
|
I prefer the V1 because of the arrows.
|
i have like 9500xi / Z4 jammer.. best thing ive ever had, saved me from 3 tickets last summer! Theyre not illegal where i live so its a bonus. The V1 was my first chioce but didnt stnc with my z4 jammer so i went with the 9500xi, i love it. the v1 doesnt have gps, and the gps is a huge bonus in my city because of the intersection speed cameras.
the jammer is amazing- best investment! |

edit: check this out: Escort RedLine versus Valentine One: Comparison Test and Review. http://radartest.com/images/detector...Range-Test.png http://radartest.com/images/detector...Test_Chart.png http://radartest.com/images/detector...Test-Chart.png http://radartest.com/images/detector...Range-Test.jpg http://radartest.com/images/detector...Radar-Test.png based on the above tests, the redline trumps the v1 in almost every aspect. the only tests where it fell behind were rear detection and photo radar. in my experience over the last 2yrs or so...ive never ran into a photo radar, so it wasnt a concern for me, nor have i any use for rear radar antenna. im more worried about whats in front of me. so if its between the v1 and redline id say go with what makes most sense to you (cost? arrows?) as they're mostly on par with each other. if its between the 9500ix and anything else, ask yourself...do you need the gps features? are there redlight cameras in your area? are there a ton of false alerts? also, laser isnt an issue...once you're hit you're basically done with. deflection hits may be somewhat helpful, but the chances are so low it doesnt matter. just get a laser interceptor and be done with it! i chose the 9500ix based on the gps features..ive detected Ka band radar from behind me a handful of times and dont need arrows to tell me..simple common sense would tell you that if you're getting a legit radar hit that seems to stay with you, its behind you somewhere - either speed up ;) or slow down and let it pass you. i also live in a fairly urban city with tons of radar emitting grocery stores, so the gps lockouts are a godsend for false alerts! with all this said, ive probably been saved by 10-20 tickets over the last few years (i used to have a 120 mile round trip daily commute to work) |
let me know when your 9500ix starts giving you problems...just a heads up :tiphat:

I have been really happy with my Beltronics RX65; for the money, I think it is one of the best deals around right now. It performed up to the level of many high end detectors for 2/3 of the price, but you can't go wrong with any of the choices those above have offered.
|
They were not an early build, the last one I had was from less then a year ago. I switched to the V1 through recommendations from friends that have them, and I couldnt be happier. Sure the red light camera thing was kinda cool, but when are you really gonna run a red light anyway? "Just sayin"

therefore, in my home city, if i come upon a yellow light and i believe i have time to make it, ill go for it - i believe the law is so long as your the rear most part of your vehicle is past the line before the light turns red you are fine. however! the red light cameras in other surrounding cities have made it so its basically: green - go; yellow - STOP; red - make sure you're stopped and not past the line. whenever i get the alert that there's a red light camera at the intersection, i wont even take my chances...its green or bust. i will sit at the intersection if its yellow. red light cameras aren't about safety nowadays, its more about extra revenue for the city. |

a radar detector is only an aid anyway, therefore any high performing radar detector is all that you need (v1, 9500ix, 8500i...etc). just because you have any of these detectors doesnt mean you're speeding ticket proof. you should know the methods LEO's use as well as how radar detectors function in order to get the best use of them. Arrows are an added aid to a radar detector, it takes out a simple step a brain can do but the V1 does it faster and 95% accuracy. |

Are they legal in your part of Canada? That's why i got the STI driver, b/c i drive from chicago to toronto and i've gotten caught with my 8500 x50 but the sti has been flawless to the OPP |

Everyone Thx for your opinions and honesty!
I think I am going to get the Redline, I just wish the Redline had the GPS and Traffic camera feature. I live in the NYC area and that is nice feature. Cherish. Quote:

I just picked up the passport redline. I haven't really had a chance to test it but all my passed passport's have been great. Passport was recently running a special if you buy a new detector you get an additional cord and the new much better mounting suction cup. They also bumped up the trade in price to 80 bucks.

in alberta the jammer/detectors arnt illegal, so funny when u pass laser and the cop looks so stunned, u just look and smile ahhahah
