Gonna remove hamburgers, clean, spray and re-stick with 3m. Whats the quickest and easiest way without breaking one of those plasctic pieces of junk to get them off and ack on?

Agree! Just make sure the glue is soft enough and yes, use a hair dryier to warm it up.

Dental floss works pretty well with some GooGone for the residue.

I use a hair dryer and and fingernail polish remover for the leftover sticky. Just make shire you get the glue good and hot or it will pull paint with it.

I wouldn't recommend fingernail polish remover. It has a lot is acetone and will severly dry out the paint. Goo gone would be a lot safer.

i just did it. took a butter knife and took my time removing the emblem. Still left some adhesive on the car and whatever is base im putting a strip or two of 3m tape. but i just used a butter knife for the frnt and the back

Your two posts combined is exactly what I would recommend.

:tup: Ill be doing these soon

I used fishing line and a hair dryer to warm up the glue behind em, here's another tip the glue is actually works quite well, if you leave it on ur car and the back of ur emblem you can reheat it up and stick them back on.

you can check my album where I have pics of my emblems I repainted.

I have a set of these trim tools, they're $10 at Harbor Freight. Most Super Street & D Sport mags have a coupon for there too. They are plastic so there is less danger of scratching the paint like a metal tool will. Great for interior panels also:

I'd probably mask the surrounding area with blue masking tape too.

Here's another trim tool set too:

Few bucks cheaper and they are a little smaller. I have this set too from another maker and had it first. I'd probably get this one if I were to pick one.

What is a hamburger? The front and back Nissan badges?

Yep. Picture it without the Nissan name in the middle. What's it look like?

:eek2: No way:shakes head:

i don't see the point of the trim tool set, how can fishing line damage the paint? what is it metal?

I used fishing line to remove the 2.3 badge on my Mazda 3, and it scratched the paint. I don't think the line itself did it, but I think there may have been some dirt worked in behind the emblem and working the line back and forth caused light scratches.

waxed dentotape floss.

nogoodname 11-07-2010 04:44 PM

I would not use the tools from a hardware store. You'll cause damage...Rofl.

Hair dryer + fine fishing line + turtle wax bug and tar remover = works like a charm!

They are nylon tools, I don't believe they would scratch your paint or any other surface.

I personally have never used them before but given G Fo12ce's previous experience with modifying cars I trust his judgement. ;)

Dark_Sub_Rosa 11-07-2010 08:06 PM

Sponges can scratch paint, those tools are meant for interior panels not to be used on the exterior surface.

The fishing line or waxed dental floss works too. I used that to debadge my car (370Z & Nismo). Just be careful with the sharp edges/corners of the lettering, they'll chip your paint if you don't pull them straight off.

As far as the Nissan badges and the tool set goes. Fishing line is fine too I'm sure. I just mentioned those nylon tools in case you have to do any prying. I thought there were prongs on the back side of one of those badges? I know on the BMW roundels you had to pry a bit to get the prongs off some grommets. Anyway, I used those tool a bunch over the weekend putting in my head unit too. My point was it's better than screw drivers if you need to leverage something on paint or interior parts.
