Thinking of matte black wrap... Thoughts?

So I have just about had it with the soft stock paint, and really like the matte black cars that I have seen. Anyone have personal experience with a complete vinyl wrap? How long does it last? How does one wash/protect it? I'm open to any opinions too just trying to think it through before I drop all of that money.

I like the matte black look. Can't really give you tips on a the wrap being that I have never done it. I know there are a couple of pictures floating around with a Z that has been completely wrapped. Maybe the owner can give you some more insight.

Wrap material is becoming more readily abundant and more advanced. Average life is 5-7 years.

Thanks for the replies, I guess one question that comes out of this is if the lifespan is 5-7 years what does it look like from year 4 to year 7 if that makes sense. I don't want to have to drop 2 grand every 3-4 years to keep it looking good...

I wouldn't do it. I think matte black is played out and everyone should stop doing it now. :)

Thats why I may wrap mine in a different color ;)

I say do what YOU like not what everyone else does. You just better like it enough to live off the bad comments you might get. The life correct me if im wrong bat is mostly based on fading and discoloration not the actual material? So it will still look better then a car with 4-5 years of paint damage IMO.

I would eventually like to wrap my car matte titanium or grayish. That to me looks sick!

As long as you take care of it it should last a good while :). We have roof overlays on cars for 3 plus years now, looking good still:).

He's got a point..red is awesome. How about a matte deep red wrap?

docaam 11-05-2010 03:36 PM

naaa they had this satin black wrap in excess so offer only for that colour, i was only suppose to pay 500$ for everything, for any other colour its normal price of 1500$

FairladyZ10PG 11-05-2010 03:36 PM

I wouldn't do it. I've seen a few wrapped cars but they looked like crap in person. Maybe they didn't hire a professional to do the job and did it themselves but you would say the same thing if you were there with me to see the car. I would just get the clear bra but that's just my opinion.

bullitt5897 11-05-2010 08:37 PM

Ok soo you want to wrap it flat black  I would HIGHLY suggest you go with a product like 3M's or XPELS matte protective film over your car. Normal vinyl cars have big issues with rock chips.... And not always the best install. Now since I have been at the sema show this week I have seen all the different brands and techniques and by far I feel the 3m and the XPEL products were the best! They were easily applied were thicker material. They were easy to stretch to form fit hard and complex areas and they were able to be removed with zero left over residue!!!! Big plus in my eyes. The XPEL product was really nice and they pre cut all the pieces for your car and you can't see any lines anywhere!!!

I would agree for the most part. In person I have seen 3 cars that had a full wrap only the one looked good, however there two guys I know that have wrapped either the roof or the hood and roof and they both look good. I think this is because trying to wrap the bumpers would be a real PITA.

O.P. - GL with the wrap post pics when you get it done. $500 isn't a bad deal.......I would almost wrap my 40th if I could get it that cheap and have it look good, then just take it off in couple years.......
