For those who blacked out their fangs.

Just curious. How often have you had to re-do the job due to nicks, chips, etc? Thanks.

After a couple of canyon runs I gave up.

ncheung85 10-11-2010 07:39 PM

I messed up painting it soo many time I got up to maybe around 8 layers of paint on it. lol. I messed up because it didnt come out even. I got no chip or anything, it still look like the same since the last time I paint it. Still need to do the clear coat.

ResQguy 10-11-2010 08:35 PM

Yeah, I've done mine twice and it's bugging the sh1t out of me that I need to do it again already. I'm considering going with CF.

Never. I did mine about 2 months ago and its held up like a champ. Its my daily driver and ive put about 2000 miles on it since i did it. And i dont take any special precautions on the road, like extra distance between other cars. Ive gotten a few nicks on the factory painted part of the bumper in this time frame, but none on the fang area.

You, Sir, are lucky. The first time, I didn't use a clear coat. The last time (about 4 months ago) I clear coated it, and it's lasted a little longer. There are only about 3 or 4 TINY rock chips in it now, but it drives me nuts.

CBRich 10-12-2010 07:48 AM

I would think the best solution would be purchasing a bumper without paint and just leaving that portion unpainted. Other than that you could go with one of the carbon fiber setups.

TongMan 10-12-2010 10:16 AM

There are three ways to black out your fangs:

1. paint
2. carbon fiber cover
3. vinyl

I did the vinyl.

I just checked out your albums. Your overlays actually look pretty good. Did you do that yourself?

kenchan 10-12-2010 10:54 AM

try Duplicolor engine enamel matte black paint. i used this stuff on my Honda's fog lamp surround pieces 3yrs ago and it's still scratchless (through 2 snow/salt seasons). :p

and it's supers easy to get a nice matte even finish.

emayfiel 10-12-2010 10:58 AM

Has anyone ever done anything different with the fangs on a black car? Like gunmetal, carbon fiber, or something?

Yes I did it myself. It was a good 2 hours or work though. Patience is needed.

kenchan 10-12-2010 02:26 PM

guard dad- please pay simota for the fuel gauge overlay!!!

JollyGoodChap 10-12-2010 04:43 PM

has anyone tried to Plasti-dip it instead?

kenchan 10-12-2010 04:47 PM

not sure if you want to do such a large area like that cause it catches dust and microfiber towel lint, duster mop lint....

deben 10-12-2010 08:55 PM

how easy are your overlays to install? is everything pre-cut or is there some cutting involved?

Bluebatmobile 10-13-2010 12:36 PM

Precut. Some trimming may be required after install. Patience is the key to a good install :).

Email me to order ;).

patience is definitely key for any body mod. I bought an eastwood fender roller and I wanted to jump in and try it out right away but I did lots and lots of research and then rolling the fenders is a process where you shoud take your time also to ensure no cracking and buldges. Thanks again!

i painted mine and i think i did a pretty good job i forgot to score the tape before pulling it up so the edges pulled the paint just a little but i followed simota1's diy and it went fine.

Looks good! But my original post wasn't about whether or not I should paint. I've painted my fangs twice, and they still get chipped. How long have your fangs been painted? Has the paint held up? Thanks. :tiphat:

iceman21_23 10-15-2010 05:11 PM

like two weeks lol it still looks just like new, then again i did like 4-5 coats of clear on it..

Westwood 10-15-2010 08:30 PM

not everyone wants the cf cover on there fangs on there z.... thats why many of us who arent into the look painted our fangs black..... reason why we used spray paint is because i dont think a high gloss black would look so good on the fang area... we were all trying to hide the buck tooth fang area not emphasize it with a high gloss paint job.. plus that part of the car sits realy low on the car you can avoid rock chips... so doing it the painted way you can just touch it up again  plus if they made a frp fang cover i would have bought it in a heart beat...

Bluebatmobile 10-16-2010 12:55 AM

Email me if any of you guys want the Overlay :).

i agree a frp fang cover would be hot :yum: they make the rear diffuser so they should make the fang cover too
