Marco's 370z - MRWorks Shaved Door Handles

Custom Shaved Door Handles
This is what Marco and I have been playing with last few months. Way long over due but this is what happens when you get really tied up working on headlights. You know how we like to tease.

Custom MRWorks Paintjob - 1st shaved door handles in the world on a 370z;)

Looks real nice work!

SPOHN 08-22-2010 07:08 PM

Looks like he's using his head :tiphat:

Lemers 08-22-2010 07:17 PM

Does this work with the key fob? Or do you need an new aftermarket fob? Can you keep the fob in your pocket like the oem?

flashburn 08-22-2010 07:18 PM

Where do i sign up?.... haha

shabarivas 08-22-2010 09:11 PM

probably uses door poppers to open - I have always wanted to do that :)

dropped1 08-22-2010 11:05 PM

Sweet...I'd love to see some more pics.

This is a cool mod for a show car, but not for a daily driver!

Chris_1 08-22-2010 11:59 PM

You know what I would LOVE, to do the door handles like on the cadillac cts v coupe where they are hidden, I think that is a classy and very effective look.

SE 08-23-2010 12:17 AM

Nice work!

I want to see someone put the R35 door handles on.

370zproject 08-23-2010 12:23 AM

clean!

that'd be pretty cool. but like someone said further up, daily drivers might want to focus on other mods.

this is awesome for a show car though. i like it.

370zproject 08-23-2010 12:49 AM

rub it in phelan lol

how would it be an hassle for a daily driver?

phelan 08-23-2010 01:09 AM

dunno, i think it would if you need some sort of button on the keyfob to open your door.

maybe if it is like the CTS or what i'm thinking on the american cars it won't be.

damn, so much flak for my comment

wilsonp 08-23-2010 01:17 AM

How about capacitive touch on the door or glass?

370ZBLACK09 08-24-2010 08:15 PM

Want this

I agree as i have shaved handles on my dd. Also most tracks will not allow you to run your car like this, so if you want show and go.. one has to be sacrificed.

Also Ryan stated 1st in the world? (in bold)lol! I know what you meant but come on man, maybe 1st on a 370Z but enthusiast have been shaving door handles for Decades. It looks great though. I can't wait to see how slick and clean it looks with the door closed. did you put in a hide away switch?

Waiz 08-25-2010 11:30 PM

In for progress!!

I've seen it on a G37 but never on another car.

^^^
Haha Danny, he was referring to the first on the 370!! lol Yes its not practical for a DD. I am using popper solenoids and its just another key fob that you have to press with the OEM one.

Ryan@MRWorks 08-26-2010 05:00 PM

:) First ever on a 370z with a full body custom paint job, in the universe! Correction...

There are many reasons...I'll list a few.

1. Dead Battery = Can't open doors
2. Leave Fob inside car = Can't open doors
3. Winter time = doors iced shut, can't open doors

2. leave fob inside.....how the hell would you lock the doors if you left it inside?

3. Winter...who cares about winter..cali surly doesnt have one lol

So maybe the first one.

Holliday 08-27-2010 02:32 AM

Looks good, minus the orange peel. :(

Chris_1 08-27-2010 09:58 AM

If you were to make shaved door handles, but with the opening like a ctsv coupe, it would be fine for daily driver b/c you can still pull the door open.

Ryan@MRWorks 08-27-2010 12:17 PM

Thanks guys, anyway this was done around 8-10months ago I can't even remember exactly I took that shot with my cell phone while it was being worked on and its the only shot for now until the entire car is complete. This car has yet to be seen by anyone the entire car has been revamped and is no longer in the same form previously seen. We are working with other companies to get more available products for everyone here on this forum. Not sure why Nissan made such a bold statement it is the main focal point and cheapens the look of the Z with those bright silver massive handles??? Some like it, some cover it up by color matching it, and almost everyone who sees them hates it, so what we did to fix the problem was to get rid of them completely. They are even larger when compared to the new Honda Accord Coupe with the massive handles. We thought about all the negatives and positives before jumping the gun and decided to get rid of the big and ugly dreadful luggage door handles as they were killing the bodylines of the Z.

Some of the options before doing this was:
1. Key card (unlocked and opens by touch)
2. Climbing through the trunk (open the trunk jump right in)
3. Jumping through through the window (like in daisy dukes) j.k.
4. Electrical and all the nuts and bolts galore

On a serious note, the door works flawlessly it operates on a seperate keyfob like Marco stated, without disabling any O.E.M. features. As for the Ctsv coupe design comment you are very close. We have an emergency method. I will say for those who are thinking of some type of conversion or new doors handles think of all the electronics required but don't just shave the handle and call it a day by praying the battery never dies. But we worked out all the disadvantages to every issue. As for that very minor orange peel the entire car was not yet wetsanded to a smooth glass surface and the car was still quite a bit fresh from drying. The car is smooth like a babies behind now of course. When you paint an entire car wetsanding is done carefully and it is one of the most important processes to a complete and perfect shine/luster all stock Z's have orange peel from the factory. Every factory car not just Nissan has orange peel. If you don't know what you are doing good luck burning through the paint. We are so busy these days the real camera doesn't get used so often :(. Like I stated once before, Marco's Z no longer looks anything like it use to.;)

Holliday 08-27-2010 12:31 PM

I figured with the work you guy's do, wet sanding would have been on the agenda:) I look forward to seeing the final product!

wilsonp 08-27-2010 04:19 PM

Go see a factory NSX before stating every car has orange peel :P

I really wish factory paint jobs were better, especially on the black cars!

I also wish factory paint jobs we're better. I've seen plenty of NSX where I work including high end exotics that need correction. I do automotive photo illustration work and one thing I do is work with car reflections and getting bodylines straight with reflector cards finding the best light for a vehicle color. I've seen thousand dollar paints jobs to 1 day paint jobs. I will say many cars from factory have orange peel only a very few rarely come out flawless even with the new technology that is being used to paint vehicles. I know many Ferrari and Lamborghini owners who have their paint constantly maintained cut and buffed to always renew that show room shine. One can only do so much to keep a car scratch free from daily driving. No need to explain this procedure in depth but if you choose to state the facts. Again, I have seen plenty of orange peel from factory vehicles direct from the dealer. Just randomly googled and found this guys thread. Acura/Honda paint is not the best paint. Not going to get into the differences between cheap and expensive paints and how it all works.

Anyway this isn't an orange peel thread, back on topic ;)

Wow that looks incredible, what rear bumper is that, the Nismo? What front lip have you used?

The car looks amazing, I would do mine exactly like that but in black.

Maybe I'm nit picking but in the second picture, does the front fender paint look off or is it just the angle?

Dan Z Man 11-10-2010 10:16 PM
