<--100% Ricer

I think that 370zs are still at a high enough price point where they are still mostly inaccessible to the mainstream younger tuning crowd such as many 350z/G35 owners. There are some truely aweful 350zs out because their lower price point means that they are more accessible to younger people who, truth be told, are more likely to 'rice' a car out. This is coming from the perspective of a 19 year old btw. ;)

Ricer is not a car but a person. Let's have some fun with a few examples.

EX 1: Mustang owner (who drives a 4.6L stock GT btw) walks over to your 370z and makes some joke about it being crap because it's not American. He then proceeds to act like his car is a 10 second car by throwing a bunch of magazine numbers at you and how his friend's car does this. You're fed up of his crap so you get in your car and leave. 10 seconds later he flies by you revving as hard as he can.

The mustang owner is a ricer in this situation. He made of your car, bench raced like he's 16, and then flew by you trying to act tough. RICER.

Ex 2: Camaro owner (with a H/C/I LS1 camaro built and tuned for a 200 shot of nitrous) walks over to you and compliments on your car. He then asks a few questions about performance and comfort. Later on you leave after talking and you find yourself next to each other at the stoplight. He takes off hard and gives you a thumbs up.

The camaro owner is NOT a ricer. He respects your ride and drives a respectful one at the same time. He does not try to impress you with his awesome bench racing skills he's just being polite and truly interested in your car.

There are plenty of ricers out there and it has nothing to do with the country their car came from.

HOWEVER, in the 70's or so the term RICER meant anything Japanese and a four cylinder. That term really isn't applicable in today's automotive culture because there are a number of STi's and Evo's -- 4 banger cars if you will -- that would make a z06 cry.

These. Are ricers.

Lol. Actually that's a Toyota Cav with (I believe) the TRD body kit. This is closer to what it looked like stock from the factory:

Saw this amongst the random gallery pictures: Nissan 370Z Forum - jookiyaya's Album: 1999 honda civic EX - Picture

Look at all angles to get a good picture.

To me, that is a ricer. Not because the mods are tasteless per se, but because they are done to a pedestrian Civic EX. A car that, even after mods, is probably slower than a new base model Camry or Corolla.

A ricer is one who modifies a car that is not fast to look faster. i.e. wastes more money on visual mods than the car is worth just in order for it to look "good" or "aggressive." It doesn't have to be trashy for it to be rice IMO.

Zaggeron 08-11-2010 09:17 PM

^^ I dunno ... I don't think something is rice just because it's a cosmetic mod on a non-performance car. To me at least, the mod does have be tasteless or foolish -- something that is supposed to make the car look or sound fast when it really does nothing for performance. To me that Civic you reference is a long way from rice.

Zaggeron 08-11-2010 09:22 PM

First google hit on "rice civic"

Large Type R wing, cheap white wheels, retrofit eBay HID's, gaytezza tail lights, fart can (it's there, you just can't see it), Nology spark plug wires (most ricer mod ever), red Honda badge.

Seems like a long list of rice to me.

I don't think I'd put any of those things on my Z...

edit: even my wife thinks it's rice lol. She's far from a bigoted elitist tuner like me...
