Sometimes it can't be helped. Most of us have been in situations where slamming the brakes at a yellow would likely cause an accident. Also realize that those cameras are not 100% accurate. I'm not saying he should intentionally run red lights, on the contrary. It just seems like the cameras are set up/timed to catch you off gaurd. Sometimes they shorten the transition time between yellow & red to yield more tickets.

Just playing devils advocate, but if running a red light at these intersections are really so dangerous to the public. Why is the fine only $50 and no points. If the local government wanted to stop this from happening, shouldn't the fine be $1,000 and up.

I personaly think they are usefull, but it really depends on the location. It's sad, but they usally look for a spot that creates the most revenue (heavy, but slow traffic areas) instead of the most dangerous.

OP don't bother with covers & sprays. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Allright Im going to start with everyone else's comments. I have never PURPOSELY tried to run a red light. Never in a million years would anyone want to run into oncoming traffic.

I have a strong opinion that since lights are timed that slamming on your brakes creates a much more dangerous situation then being 10 feet a way from the intersection when the light turns red.

Iam in no way advocating sprinting through red lights, but sometimes it happens when you think there is enough time and slamming on your brakes going 50+ would create quite the hazardous situation.

Thank you to the post that I just quoted, I appreciate a actual real approach to my question and not a "I never run red lights because the lights never turn red when Im on the road" approach.

Im a very safe driver with minimal citations on my record but sometimes I miss the yellow by 10 feet, someone sue me

Sometimes you cross when the light is green and the idiot in front of you slows down to make a sudden left turn without signal (lots of 1 way signals in LA) and you end getting a ticket.

Stuff happens, this is the first time I have encountered the red light tickets. I really dont feel like being responsible for hurting someone else by slamming into my brakes to avoid a ticket. Again its just my opinion and im pretty sure slamming on the brakes has caused more accidents then missing the light by 1/10 of a second

I agree, also once you get tagged at one? You have a tendency to be extra careful again, and even avoid those intersections if possible.

buy one of those show n go front plate mounts, install it in the rear, and wire it to drop the plate down when you want..

There's this thing called the baseball bat. Just take it there and beat the hell out of it.

I don't like Red Light Camera as well. It's a trap. There was reports about how some cities illegally shorten the delay between lights just to get more tickets. Bunch of crooks.

But I don't support running red light either. :driving:

ahahah that was pretty good, Im thinking about going with a frame to put on it, but I may just drop it and forget about it and make sure there is not a camera next time.

Yeah and the problem is if you are then subsequently approaching said intersections and get close to it and the light now turns yellow you start to get this extreme anxious feeling like you are going to get unfairly tagged again. WTF do they want us to do, slam on the brakes or floor it to avoid the ticket? This has happened to me a few times now and one time I did had to slam on the brakes and it pissed me off, so now I am leaning on the other option. :ugh2:

And I think it's wrong to shorten the yellow on these red light cameras:

I know what your talking about, I once ran a yellow light (yes, the light was still yellow when i passed it) and I got a ticket with a red light photo !!

Yeah, I just stop now if there is someone in front of me. Even whent it's green and the side walk timer thing shows 2 or 3 seconds.

People behind me get mad but I just tell them I saved you 430 dollars buddy! Yeah my first red light trap ticket was that much. Ridiculous.

Is it true that some of these high tech cameras can zoom in on the VIN number for cars without plates? Heard this from a random dude one time.

Hahahaha. But instead of getting a traffic ticket you get a ticket to jail for vandalism.

the cameras themselves are actualy kind of crappy. Just enough resolution to read a license plate, the image files would be gigantic for them to render a vin legible. The camera is fixed. An operator manualy zooms in on the image itself during processing like you would looking at an image file on the computer. For a camera to track a moving car and zoom in on the vin is near impossible with todays tech.

I hate those red light cameras. Cover your plates with a reflective clear cover.
