Tint tommorow

Im getting the z tinted tomorrow and I keep flopping between 15 or 25 percent. I like the way 15 looks alot but dont want to crash the z because of reduced visibility.

so my question is, is 15% to dark? will I be able to see my side mirrors through the windows at night to check for cars.

Thanks

flashburn 06-27-2010 08:26 PM

I have no problems with 15% at night. I had 25% on my old car and almost stuck with it, since I really wanted 20% and they didn't offer it. I had the same concerns as you. In the end, I'm glad I went with 15% and all my future cars will be 15%.

onefastz 06-27-2010 08:41 PM

I have 20% and honestly wish I had went with 15%. I think it's a perfect tint. And you will have no visibility problems at all.

Thanks guys!! made my decision easier. Going with 15% tomorrow. I wish 5 wasnt ridiculous to see out of or I would go with that.

onefastz 06-27-2010 08:53 PM

No problem. 5% is just about as dark as it gets. My roommate got 5% last week on his Xterra and I can BARELY see in it with my face against the window. It's not too bad to see out of, but at night it's pretty dark. Plus, there would be a good chance you would get pulled over for a tint that dark, unless it's legal where you live, but I think it's illegal in every state for passenger cars.

Yeah Im pretty sure the limit in Texas is 25% so 15 shouldnt be that big of a problem. 5% just seems like an unnecessary hazard, but I don't know if you feel comfortable driving it then I guess it isn't a problem

onefastz 06-27-2010 09:02 PM

It won't be that big of a difference, you will be very happy with 15%. Here in Tennessee the limit is 35%, but I've had mine tinted at 15% for about 10 months now and haven't had any problems.

Boost_lee 06-27-2010 09:21 PM

went with 20% today and I love it. Not too dark, not too light. I'm sure 15 will be great for you if you like it just a tad darker

I'm thinking about 15% post pics!

AK370Z 06-28-2010 01:20 AM

I have either 35 or 40, Whatever the dealer put on, still looks pretty dark because of how low our car sits!

I need the rear to be DARK, probably 5 %, don't want creepers to notice sub so easily. :shakes head:

I hear 5% is a very real danger at night backing into places and seeing cops in the rear view.

I had 0% done on all my cars prior to the Z (except my vw bug) but after thinking about it, the darker tint made the Z look a little too "thug". The last thing I wanted is to take away from the beauty of the Z.

Now, the only time I ever had an issue with the darker tint, is when it was in the middle of the night, with no street lights, while it was raining. In that situation, I had to be a little cautious when pulling out onto roads and whatnot. Other than that, you'll be able to see just fine.

Personally, I think anything between 20% and 45% should look great on the Z. I ended up with 35%.

I went with 20% on mine and love it....anything from 15-35% should look awesome on the Z

25% is Texas law FWIW

I have 30% on mine and it looks much darker than most cars with 30%. Mainly due to the small windows on the z and the dark interior.

I have 25% and love it but I also went with ceramic tint. It makes a huge difference between the wifes car and mind. She has normal tint and you can feel the difference in heat when you get into the car.

fairladyZ34 06-28-2010 10:57 AM

i got 40% on the doors and 20% on the rears on a mag black, i love it

nolan1016 06-28-2010 03:37 PM

I just got back!! install went great. I payed 180 cash for the job 15% all around. Not to dark and I can still see perfect. He offered to tint my entire windshield for a extra 80, but I turned it down.... for now (;

My friend has 5% all around on his firebird, I drove it once at night, super hard for me to see out of, and I felt very unsafe.

I'd never do that on my side windows, but it should be fine for the rear, I use side mirrors 90% of time for normal driving and about to have a back up camera anyways.
