Touring Pedal Swap
Still undecided if the Touring is worth the extra bucks over the Base. But one thing I really must have are those aluminum pedals.
I assume the brake and clutch pedals have covers that just slip on with a kind of rubber backing. It's the Accel Pedal that I'm wondering about, since it's floor mounted. I'd appreciate it if someone could look at their pedals to see if this would be an easy swap. Thanks:tiphat: |
Not sure. I and a few others on here are waiting patiently for these to become availible. I'm assuming they will be since they were and are availible for the 350Z if you had a base model. Courtesyparts.com usually carries them, but not yet for the 370z. I might just order them from the dealership. I'm hoping it's an easy swap for the gas pedal, but to be honest I have no idea.

I purchased a Base+sport on Feb 12th. Inquired at dealer (with salesman and someone in parts) about the pedals from the touring. They are not offered yet. Hope they will offer soon - want to make the change also.

Only a matter of time. tick tock though. haha. I just can't believe they put in the footrest aluminum pedal but got cheap with the other 3. Strange.

The Japanese version gets the aluminum pedals on the sport option too, sucks that they didn't do this on the US model.
My Benz also has a floor mounted gas pedal. Two bolts on the floor and one behind the pedal that attaches to the arm. I hope the Z pedal swap is an easy to do by yourself. I'd hate to have to pony up even more $ to have the dealer do it. Hoping an existing Z owner can examine your pedals to confirm... |
Okay, I need some clarification of what people are seeing/considering as the aluminum pedals? We have the Touring/Sports model, and the pedals are no more than either hard plastic, in the case of the dead and gas pedal; the brake pedal (as ours is an automatic) is rubber, and I suspect that the clutch pedal is rubber too. All the pedals are simply clad in an aluminum fascia that is no more than 1/16" thick, rolled on the outer perimeters to look like a solid block of aluminum, but they are not—the aluminum is purely a cosmetic inlay, period. The gas pedal is more than a just a hinged-to-the-floor-affair as there is an enclosure assembly behind the pedal that houses where the cable enters and probably (as I'm guessing) other self-adjusting mechanisms for cable tension.

My guess is the brake (and clutch) have slip on rubber backings. But from your description, the gas pedal swap could be complicated. If the enclorue housing you described can not be easily detached from the pedal, Nissan may need to sell the pedal complete with the enclosure assembly. Which will make it more expensive and still a complicated install for the non-mechanically inclined. I'm trying to imagine what this enclosure might look like. Most gas pedals connect to an arm that goes up or perhaps into the floor. Is the gas pedal itself one piece or can the aluminum look covering be removed like on your brake pedal? |
^^ Good question.

Here are some photographs of the gas pedal assembly:

I know my 350z has thick aluminum pedals. The 370z look kind of cheap. But in the past 4 years i have only glanced at the pedals a couple times. Aluminum pedals are nice but it's not something i look at.

I called the guys at Ultimate Pedals, but they have not created ones for the 370. Since they are only 30min away from me I asked if they wanted me to take my car so they can get measurements but all i got was a we will call you when needed.
So I am back at trying to make my own, I have about 80% of the modeling done for the Accelerator pedal, and only 20% on the other two, those have curves and weird geometry. Once I am done, ill share the models, and if anyone wants to join my venture of having them made, please tell me, its a lot cheaper when you get more made than just one set. or Ill just mill them myself worst comes to worst. |

Thanks SoCal 370, that really helps! I doesn't look like an easy swap. It looks like the aftermarket maybe a better alternative. Or, I may just buy a Touring now instead of a Base. |
