Just Installed youledshop SMD Trunk LED! (Prototype)

As you've seen my thread last week, where I installed the whole interior led kit which included map lights, trunk light and license plate lights. While the map and license plate lights were perfect, I felt that the trunk led was not as bright as I think it should be. It's probably okay for some owners but I like my trunk area to be fully lighted as I do shopping and use the trunk regularly. So, thanks to cliff, he sent this awesome SMD Bright White led for my car to try out. Check it out:

Not 1 or 2, 24 bright white led!

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04078.jpg

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04080.jpg
As you can see, it fires straight into the trunk area not the plastic end!

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04087.jpg
Perfect brightness!

The pictures may not show (because it's very hard to take picture of bright bulb at night) but this LED panel lights up the whole trunk. Also, unlike previous trunk led which illuminates straight(as some of you asked), this SMD LED puts out full output TOWARD the trunk as it sits flush with the clear plastic surface.

Here's a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1Ppjw3lAl4
P.S. I know my trunk is very dirty :o. I still have wood chips from the woods I bought for ramp extenders)

Conclusion: These bulbs illuminates the trunk area perfectly. If like your trunk fully light up, please don't forget to ask cliff when you place your led kit order. I like to give them 9.5 out of 10! Very happy with the whole led setup now!

:icon17: I know I get carried away. But the car at night is perfect. Everything is white led. No more yellow ugliness.

I highly doubt it. Also, you don't want too bright red light for your dark room. You may get exposure on your films ;) (I took photography in High school )

Very nice. I just purchase a kit from them. Hopefully the trunk will be bright. If not, I'll just get this when it comes out.

I was going to let cliff chime in on pricing but I'll say this, these leds are very reasonably priced compare to the other led guys/companies  (I think about $15 for the whole 24 led circuit strip!)

I just ordered red for the dome light and trunk, white for my license plate. According to Cliff I should be the first to try red, so I will post pictures once I get and install them. Im a bit nervous that the red will look "ricer" but for the $35 Im willing to experiment, besides I rarely use the dome light and it may look cool at night.

Hey Guys,

First off i would like to thank AK for supporting and writing an honest review about our product.

Second, i would like to thank everyone on this board that purchased LED products from us. We just hit 1000 online orders, and we couldnt have done it without you guys.

Last but not least, The SMD LED Panels are now listed on our website. Once you click into 370z, there will be options for SMD Panels.

A couple members PMed me about different colors. As of right now, we only carry white. Our next shipment will have more color choices!

Thanks once again!

About 4 days. Ordered it last Sunday and got it on Thursday. I would recommend you guys to get the smd panel for the trunk because the high powered bulb only lights up 1/2 of the plastic housing.

I'm going to check it out tonight to see how bright is it.

I agree x 2 :iagree: :iagree:

AK370Z 06-13-2010 11:05 PM

First of all, big thanks to Tbonesteak for his AWESOME DIY! Thanks  If it wasn't for this line, I don't think I would have the courage to push the housing hard the way I did.

Quote:

Pry open the housing. Take a small flathead and start prying from the corner with the most clearance. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure until you hear a crack. This is not going to crack the housing so you don't have to worry. You're just cracking the dried glue.
Also, thanks to cliff from yourledshop for great price and quick shipping.

So, I finally finished all my led projects (at least I think). I already have the SMD LED in the trunk and I put the SMD in the license plate housing today. In the picture it may look too bright but since my paint (Monterey Blue) doesn't reflect light much (lets say compare to Pearl White), it's really not obnoxiously bright. It's just perfect IMO. I'm pretty happy with the install. It was a fun little project. Took me a little over 1 hour (wasted 10 minutes tried to bake the dam housing and that was FIAL :icon14:).

Here are some pictures:

sorry guys, I know it looks exactly like the BEFORE picture. That's because camera compensates for the extra light . There's nothing I can do

If you own a darker color Z and you think your current leds aren't bright enough for your plates, here your solution.
