Just Installed YourLEDShop interior, license plate, and trunk led on my Z

First of all thanks to Cliff for a VERY quick shipping. I finally got my LED kit from yourledshop.com.

Here's their original Thread: http://www.the370z.com/body-interior...your-370z.html

License Plate LEDs:
I created a old DIY here so, just check that thread out if you need guidance. I had the custom LED created for me by DIGItonium (DIGItonium's LED replaced vled ones). They were pretty expansive but man they lasted me forever! So, I swapped out those for these new one. I instantly noticed these LEDs has slight more luminance (which I wanted). Here's how they look:

Trunk LED

Swapping trunk bulb is very easy. Take a flat screwdriver and put some electric tape (just so that you don't scratch anything). Then, pry out from the left side of the housing. It'll come off very easily. Swap the LED and you're all done! Check out the pics:

It looks blue but actually it's bright white.

Interior Lights

Please follow DIGItonium easy DIY here for instructions on how to remove the housing for these bulbs. If you're tired of stock bright yellow interior light and want something that's a little more dimmer and nice, these are perfect! They are slightly dimmer than OEM. I think they look much better. Check them out:

I almost burned my finger changing them (as I had the door open for a while). Let them cool down first and then touch them.

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04002.jpg

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04004.jpg
These are NOT blue. They are bright white. Just my camera making them blue.

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04012.jpg

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04026.jpg

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04032.jpg

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC04050.jpg
Again, camera makes them look blue.

You can change all these 5 bulbs in about 5-7 minutes. Quick swap

Verdict: I am pretty happy with these. I think the OEM map lights are too bright. In this 21st century, we no longer have to look at maps, thanks to Satellite Navigation Systems. So, these dimmer bright white led is a good replacement IMO. Trunk light could be a little brighter but it's not too bad. If you still have the yellow oem for the license plate, you should def get these. Look 10x better.

Thank goodness for the positive review, I paid for mine last night :)

Thanks for the comparison

AK did you put the smaller LED bulbs in the map light? does your stay on very dim when off?

One of my rear license plate LED bulbs blew after 1 month and Cliff sent a replacement with no questions ask.!! thumbsup:

Yes two smaller ones in the map. I am not sure what you mean.. When off it's completely off. Did you push the bulb in all the way?

370Z JT 06-02-2010 01:52 AM

yea when mine are pushed all the way in, it won't light when turned on. If I put them like half way in, they will turn on and also be dim when off. really weird.

That's indeed weird. If they don't lit when pushed all the way in, you can just flip them (this changes the polarity) and should lit properly. I'll take some pictures for you tomm (in daylight). Please remind me if I forget.

nice AK, ordered these a few weeks ago, just waiting to get my Z back to install them =(

YourLEDShop 06-02-2010 10:02 AM

Hey AK,

From what i was reading, you put the smaller ones in the dome light, but theyre actually meant for the plate lights. The smaller ones are SMD lights, which create less heat. If you put the bigger LEDs in the plate light, it will generate too much heat and perhaps shorten the life of the LED (since its such a small area and there is no place for the heat to escape).

Thanks for the review, and I'm glad you like them!

^^ Huh?!
I did it the same way AK did it and been using it like that for months.
The small ones were weaker so i guessed they were for the domes? I like the way they light up now. Should i swap them?

kenchan 06-02-2010 10:56 AM

looks good, AK.

wat the hell, are your neigbors growing chickens or something in their yard?? :icon14:

Do the LED's for the map light still fade out to shut off when you shut the doors?

Juruki 06-02-2010 05:00 PM

^^ LEDs dont fade out. Its either ON or OFF

Reaper42 06-02-2010 08:06 PM

So I ordered the LED kit from them and 3 of the 5 bulbs have gone bad already. :( Do I get a refund or more sent to me? Im kinda pissed, the went out within like a week too.

Shoot me a PM, we stand behind our product 100%, and we will replace it.

When we first started, we were putting the bigger ones (High powered) in the plates and a lot of people were having issues with it going bad. This is the reason we replaced it with SMD LEDs since they generate a lot less heat.

It was be suggested that you switch them, or else the plate lights might go bad and you might get pulled over.

False. LEDs can dim (fade out) depending on the driver circuit. The reason why these LEDs don't fade is because the driver circuit tries to regulate the voltage and current to the LED. The driver maintains LED brightness given an input range until the voltage becomes too low for it to keep it on. It is much more efficient than the resistor approach, but it loses the fade functionality.

Why is this type of bulb supplied for the trunk light..

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...p/DSC03982.jpg

Shouldn't the light be side firing instead of firing out of the top? Seems like 75% of the bulbs output is lighting up the inside of the trim panel and not into the cabin.

agreed when I installed the trunk LED, it was probably worse than stock!

Ok, so I went with red map lights and the red trunk light (along with white for the license plate). Decided to post some pics (a couple I used a flash) to add some variety, seeing as most went with white LEDs. I didn't do a DIY since it's an easy install and there are a ton of writeups.

kenchan 06-06-2010 11:46 AM

does that map light really illuminate red or more like pink?

It' a bit darker than the picture. Kind of reminiscent of a dark room.

Haha, thanks man.

Side note. Apparently, a red interior light isn't ideal for use if the girl in your passenger seat wants to put on makeup/get ready. So, be prepared to put up with a little chatter.

Oh, and saying, "you should have gotten ready before you got in the car." wasn't a valid response. Hahaha.

AK370Z 06-08-2010 02:46 PM

Since I said the trunk led wasn't adequite (at least in my opinion), I was asked to try out this prototype SMD trunk led:

Check out the new trunk SMD led : http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...prototype.html

swish008 08-26-2010 05:30 PM

i just got mine. theres 5 bulbs.. does the 3 that are similar goes to the map like and trunk light?

Slynky 08-26-2010 08:54 PM

I could get interested in this if there was some way to match (or semi-match) the oragne lights already mostly in use.

Kinda late here but how did you manage to get the SMD pod to stay inside the casing without falling back into the plastic panel opening?

I was installing a wood trunk setup for my air suspension and I took apart the trim in the trunk (including this light cover) and I misplaced it and now am looking for a new one for me. Anyone have any ideas where I can find one??

Ebay or part out here.

What would this be called? I tried to search it but nothing would come up. Is there a specific name for this I tried interior cargo light, interior trunk light cover etc.

Somewhere toward the end of owner’s manual, there’s a table with all lightbulb sizes. Use that to search for LED equivalent.

Trunk, license plate, and interior dome light are all size 194 LED.
