functional GTR scoops on a Solid Red 370z SIMOTA1

hey everyone... as some of you know i have purchased the oem GTR r35 scoops for my z... i had to cut holes in my hood because i wanted them functional... it was a pain in the *** to line up the scoops because they are curved a lil bit.... so i positioned them on the hood where it is curved a lil bit... i have no idea how mount oem wise and i couldnt figure out a way to mount them so they are siliconed on my hood... ALOT of silicon... they fit pretty nice :D here are some pics.... sorry about the angles of the photos my sis took them for me... lol here are the pics ;)

simota1 05-17-2010 08:20 AM

^^^ lol :rofl2:

vipor 05-17-2010 08:21 AM

Nice one simota! Let's get some pics under the hood and such. Obviously with the curved shape coming into play but it almost seems like they're too far back :twocents:

You say they're functional, but you mean just for putting more fresh air into the engine bay right?

yes just for putting in fresh air in the bay... :D i wanted them right above the motor... but there was issues with the curve of the hood.. there would have been a mad gap if i moved it any forward :(

Gunzero 05-17-2010 08:33 AM

How much does it cost to buy you a plane ticket to come do my car? :)
Maybe it'll be cheaper than sending it to a body shop mwuahaha.
I got a quote for $1375.00 For:
Paint rims black
Paint fangs black
Paint rear valance black
Polish car paint to remove swirls

m4a1mustang 05-17-2010 08:33 AM

Looks pretty interesting. :)

JB-370z 05-17-2010 09:13 AM

It's all gravy then, good job

Not meaning to :stirthepot:, but imo having ducts that far back will cause turbulence and drag inside the engine bay. Looks trick, though, Simota you are amazing. :tiphat:

Jeffblue 05-17-2010 09:47 AM

nice, it looks factory done

Why would those cause a problem on the Z if not on the GTR, isn't the point so that some air does get into the engine? if there was no increased drag wouldn't there be no air getting into the hood?

m4a1mustang 05-17-2010 09:57 AM

NACA ducts are pretty good at bringing in air with minimal impact on the drag numbers. Their size, location, and orientation are usually finely tuned in wind tunnels, though.

My guess with these is they let a little air in, don't really hurt drag numbers, and otherwise serve a primary function of looking cool. :)

Looks good Sim

Yes, naca ducts work in a very passive way which is good. The firewall is not far from those ducts, though. Simota, get thee to a wind tunnel immediately. :icon17:

Well, obviously a wall of fire is going to be pretty hot, so these should help cool it off a bit.

I may put these on my hood. When I think about it, the ducts can cool the G3's on a hot day, thereby reducing intake air temps and producing more power. Simota, you are a genius!

didymus 05-17-2010 11:21 AM

Looks nice, reminiscent of older model Zs

kenchan 05-17-2010 11:36 AM

they look like mini urinals for cats? ;) jk.

looks good. but wat are you cooling under there? there's a battery chamber and brake, etc but it's already isolated from the engine...

EVOR 05-17-2010 12:00 PM

Looks good. Best DIY without need of vented hood.

Darth 05-17-2010 12:51 PM

looks great. :p

spearfish25 05-17-2010 05:00 PM

They look awesome but my guess is they don't do squat for cooling anything in that location.

eddieconfetti 05-17-2010 05:25 PM

Thats the hood im thinking about buying from siebon.

YOU are correct LOL.... they are sooo far back they shoot straight out... BUT i am going to make an air box to re route the air back and shoot it into the motor....
