Rear Fog

Are there any mods forthcoming that will replace that gastly rear fog cover lens on the back bumber with a true rear fog light. I put rear fogs on my Audi and they're great to have :driving:

Anyone know if there are any D.O.T. issues with hooking it up?

I'm planning on doing that, but I never questioned if it might be on the books as a D.O.T. no no.

I found this interesting thread on the topic.

Well I know Audi, VW, Volvo, and some other German brands have rear fog lights in the US. My Audi had it and I used it when it was foggy. That is why you sometimes see these cars and think he must have a bulb problem, and in reality it's the rear fog light on.

yup ^ my sisters volvo XC90 has this feature.. i told her she had a tail light problem... then she told me to read the owners manual.. heh

I modified my Audi as it came with the left rear fog light. All I had to do was remove the right rear light housing, dremmel out the fog light section which was pre-wired, and insert a fog light bulb I picked up at Audi for $3. Hit my rear fog switch and both rear fog lights came on.

On the 370Z, I wonder if it's as simple as removing the rear cover and putting in a fog light bulb. Of course we'd have to find the red fog light lens cover like the one in Europe, and I'm not sure if it's pre-wired and has a switch inside.

I might not be up on the whole rear fog thing...however, I was at my local dealer Sunday and there it was - a red cover right in the middle of the rear bumper. When I stated I thought the automatic rear fog lamp wasn't on the US cars, the salesman told me it was. Now, is it operational? I guess so.

Rear fog?????

Gang,

I am still not convinced that that thing is indeed a rear fog light. Why in the devil would Nissan place a rear fog light on a car that they didn't even place "Front Fog" lights on?? Can someone answer me that?? It just doesn't make any sense to me.:werd:

nogoodname 02-03-2009 06:16 PM

^^ b/c in Europe, the rear fogs are mandatory...i think

if it's not a rear fog lamp, then what is it........ there are pics of the Japanese/Euro version with the LED's on in it.....

par4bmw 02-03-2009 07:47 PM

Also points it out in the owners manual. Definitely a fog light.

nogoodname 02-03-2009 08:33 PM

the idea is cool, i like it...the fact that it might prevent someone from rear ending you

and it's from the F1 race cars.they all got those lamps in the back

Please don't get a rear fog and drive with it on all the time.

My friend had this on his A4 and it was obnoxious! So please... don't copy the VAG kids, if you get a rear fog, only use it when necessary...

nogoodname 02-03-2009 09:57 PM

^^^ well........duh.....lol........ that's like saying, dont use the projectors in the bright sunshine......hahaha

par4bmw 02-03-2009 09:59 PM

^^^ True, but I really think the reason they do not include them on US cars is half the people would leave them on.
