Has anyone regreted doing clear bra?

Honestly speaking.

Has anyone wish they never did the clear bra (stone gaurd) on their Z? I will be doing both the hood/fenders and front bumper this comming week. While clear bra protects your finish.. does it not at the same time destroy the finish by not letting the paint breath and get washed regularly.. does it not after a while dull that paint compared to the rest of the vehicle?

When you wash the car... your not washing the paint.. your washing the clear bra. Anywayz.. call me a fool but like the rest of you i just dropped a tone of $$$$$ to get this vehicle and i would hate to do something to it that is not needed or that i might regret.

Will this car really attract that many stone chips? Because i can live with a couple.

djpathfinder 03-20-2010 11:30 PM

Don't regret it on my FX. Doing it on my 370z right now.

coaster 03-20-2010 11:33 PM

Not at all. Great investment for me.

cab83_750 03-20-2010 11:51 PM

Great investment. No regrets here.

antennahead 03-20-2010 11:57 PM

No regrets at all, but I only did the front bumper. After one year it looks brand new!

Hugoneus 03-21-2010 12:31 AM

No regrets. It is barely noticeable and I feel more calm driving in the highway knowing that it is there.

zmyride 03-21-2010 01:03 AM

I waited for a month before i got the clear bra.

I deeply regretted i didn't get the clear bra the first day i bought it.

shumby 03-21-2010 02:03 AM

no regrets. Dj where you getting yours done at?

Aero Car Parts. 7304 - 50 Street. The owner (Rick) used to be the GM for Ericksen...I've known him a long time. Tell him I sent you.

ZYGOTE 03-21-2010 08:33 AM

As long as you don't have unrealistic expectations, you'll be happy with it. It will def help minimize larger chips and the like. But don't be fooled by those that say that it's impervious to damage.

I am abosolutely sold on this product. I've had the 3M clear bra on my Toyota Tundra now for 3 years and over 30,000 miles. My front end looks as new as the day i drove it off the lot - not a single stone chip any where. I have gotten caught many times on the interstate behind semis/trucks kicking up stones and could hear them bouncing off my windshield. Did i say not a single chip in my paint! Had the bra on my 06 350Z for over a year before i traded it - same deal. My 09 370Z is scheduled to get done next week. Nothing looks worse than a front bumper full of stone chips. My GF has an 06 Eclipse and has a few spots on her hood that are already starting to rust because of stone chips. Just do it! You will not regret it.

Here are some pics. I am an installer and I have to admit some of your worries/concerns I have never heard before. The clear bra protects the paint, does not dull it, and in fact will keep it looking perfect. This product has been on the market for well over 15 years and if there were any issues like you are worried about film companiies would no longer be in business. Your paint underneath the film will not have scratches, exposure to the elements, and any daily wear such as bugs, bird droppings, and so on getting to it. Its a great investment and you will be very happy you got it.

I do not regret getting mine. I'm much more relaxed now when I drive my Z, knowing it's safe from damage. Touch up any nicks or chips before installation. HOWEVER, make sure the installer leaves no little air/water bubbles in yours. Examine it very. very carefully before you pay and leave. I have a few of these little bubbles in mine. Installer says it will cure and the summer heat will eliminate them. I'm not very happy about that. Otherwise, the clear bra is hardly visible. Anyway, anyone who is nosey enough to examine your car and notice the clear bra, will simply realize you care about your car. It's a great protection item. Subject to my prior caveat, go for it.

ZForce 03-21-2010 04:02 PM

No regrets, went this time around with Venture Shield.

A good installer will not leave any bubbles. I've had 3 vehicles done now by the same installer and not a single bubble. It's not unusual to have a little bubble after install but i've watched them prick it with a needle to get rid of the bubble.

wheee! 03-21-2010 05:09 PM

Love my ClearBra on both my vehicles. Well worth the money but the 10-15WHP gain claims are a little skeptical....

bluestyle55 03-21-2010 09:56 PM

No regret...have most of my car done and it still looks as flawless (1 year later) as it when I first bought it :)

:bowrofl: 3M Clear Bra

Mike 03-21-2010 10:00 PM

i regret not getting the lower rocker panels done.

i regret wrecking my car at VIR and having to pull the clear bra off, thus getting only 9 months of protection for my $600.

wheee! 03-21-2010 10:02 PM

I have the rockers done as well as the A pillars and roofline. I am very glad to have gone a little overboard rather than left stuff exposed....

Check out my pic under my profile. They all have the bra on. The guy who did mine has been doing it for 15 years. Zero air bubbles and you can't even tell it's on. I would just make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing.

Kool Thx!

I booked the app for next week $400 for front bumper and $150 for hood and fenders half way.

I have noticed that on white cars it really turns yellow.. anyone find this on their white Z's?

6MT 03-23-2010 04:02 PM

Has anyone regreted doing clear bra?

Yes, on my last car (2008 Accord coupe). I'll never do it again. It was the real 3m stuff, installed by a pro and I was given a guarantee. Now granted, my car was black (a bad choice to begin with) and over the almost year I had it, the appearance really deteriorated. It was very noticable... you know.... you could tell there was something on the paint in any light.

Like I said to begin with... never again.

ooOoo

well well well. Im am getting the real 3M stuff as well. As a matter of fact i am having one of the certified installers from 3M Canada to do it. Should I be worried? have you ever looked into the problem with who installed it for you? They lady that i booked the appointment with told me the install's include a 5 year warranty on the job.

interesting. I believe 3M is our only choice where i live. I have called other dealers/installers and they all get their stuff from 3M.

bluestyle55 03-23-2010 09:49 PM

mine has been on for 1 year (and my car sits outside 24/7) and I see no discoloration or anything. Still looks perfect. I do use spray wax all the time on it and very 3 months or so I do a complete buffer wax.

Those prices you were quoted are dead cheap. My bumper was 600, full hood (i highly recommend full) 450, Full roof was 300, half fendors 295, a pillar, rocker panel, mirrors, some other small parts...like another 200. IDK...it was a little under 2k. The guy did an amazing job and I would go back again on my next car.

370zdub 03-23-2010 09:53 PM

I have 3M on mine and zero regrets, even on my black car for almost a year it still looks fantastic

schrute 03-24-2010 03:46 AM

Ventureshield on mine for 7 months and 12k miles and it's holding up great. No scratches, no problems. The installer did a great job, I went back and had them do more (rocker panels, fender flares).

Edited to add: I drive my Z every day and can only imagine how horrible my bumper and lower hood would look without the clear bra to protect it the past 12k miles. I've seen Z's with this mileage without clear bra and it was not pretty. We have a lot of crap on the roads around here for the semi's and suv's to kick up.

HTP AutoWorks 03-24-2010 07:01 AM

3M is a terrible film to go with on black. It has entirely too much orange peel in it and really stands out on black. Look at the bottom of this webpage and you will see what 3M looks like compared to VentureShield Ultra on the same black Viper GTS.

Home

That is why I do not install 3M. I am sure had you gone with Venture you would have been much happier and had better results.

ZForce 03-25-2010 09:30 PM

Venture Shield FTW.

I have VS on both of the 370zBros and its like night and day compared to 3M. I have first hand experience with 3M, they were on the previous 350zBros Silverstone and Inter Lagos Fire and the film tends to turn yellow over time, it wrinkles and the lamp covers are twice as thick, what an over kill and terrible looking.

The 3M bra, well it looks like a bra compared to Venture Shield that looks like an invisible film.

I will try to find some pics of the 370zBros with Venture Shield and post up.
