Ouch, that is quite a bit higher than I expected the price to be. I'm going to have to rethink this.

I am sure he would be available to modify your existing mirror. I can certainly ask and pass on any pricing.

This is why I went with the non-compass model. In comparison to all other web pricing, this is by far much better, but still not a cheap mod. It was absolutely not worth 100$ for a compass that I never use, anyway. But, I can tell you this - the mirror that I purchased, the 453, is the same one that was in my GT-R and I absolutely love it. Would not have any other type. Very nice upgrade to the 313 of old.

now connecting with a hidden compass is it harder to deal with?

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I believe you are asking if it is a harder install? If so, the answer is no. It is the standard three-wire connection. But, the connector that clips into the actual mirror is different than the standard Gentex connector, so a custom harness has to be made. This is insignificant to the buyer as they will install in the same manner.

I think the version without the compass is actually a GENK40A.

Pricing just seems to be par with eBay/Amazon/etc. Kind of ruins the concept of the Group Buy.

You are correct. Edited to reflect proper part number.

I can't help the pricing, guys. I am not selling them nor setting the price. It is a significant price from drop (10%) from his ebay sales price and certainly well below retail. But, if you aren't happy, then there is certainly no obligation to buy. :)

vipor 03-17-2010 10:10 AM

Yeah we understand that it's not your doing, just opining on what I saw.

I haven't done any price comparisons, but I think that 25$ off the price of the mirror with a free harness and cover plus free shipping is a pretty good savings. That's roughly 60$ saved on the mirrors with the compasses and 45$ saved on those without.

To be 100% satisfied with the product received and it being brand new, it was a no-brainer to me to spend a little extra.

vipor 03-17-2010 10:21 AM

I agree, something is better than nothing for sure. Getting a new product instead of one pulled from a wrecked vehicle is great too.

Sidenote: Do the verts have map lights on their mirrors?

tjlazer 03-20-2010 08:17 PM

OK I have the Gentex 453 Series Mirror that I got used. I mounted it today and it seems it needs a single screw to secure. I don't have one. What kind can I use? Also there is no hole on the windshield mount for a screw! Does the screw just tighten to the metal wedge to hold it in place?

Here is what it looks like in the back:

vipor 03-21-2010 01:51 PM

Yes it's just a set screw, should attach to the bracket mounted to the windshield.

Just bring it into a hardware store and match up the threads to some of the bolts they sell. Some even have stations to help you find your bolt size and thread coarseness. I'm sure it's small and metric so it may be a little tricky to find.

Hell, try a dealership, worth a shot

tjlazer 03-22-2010 01:24 PM

Amazing. I called and Nissan wants me to buy a whole new Mirror to get the screw. I called Gentex and their distributor is mailing me out a screw for free... :)

@stormcrow

Gentex 453 (GENK40A) without compass - $150.00 shipped, this will come with everything needed to install on my base?

kenchan 03-22-2010 02:15 PM

im sure you all know already, but if not, Ace Hardware has a lot of screws including metrics and they sell loosely (including the fine thread pitch 1.25's) . :)

Yessir. This is the mirror without the compass and the one I purchased. The 150$ includes the harness and the wire cover. When ordering, just include in the comments that this was from the "jeremy" group buy. I'm hoping he will honor the pricing even though no one has purchased.

Yeah I tried to use another screw but it seems this needs a special screw for it to fit right. It needs a short screw with the end of it not threaded. Of course I can jerry rig one and force it on easily, but I rather not and do it right. Just me... lol

UPDATE: Turns out I got lucky on mine as the LED is amber too. It seems to work great! I would definately recommend trying to get a used one. I know there is a risk of it not working, but whats the chance of it not working? You can always pay with credit card/paypal and dispute. I got mine on eBay. I think mine came from a 2006 Maxima.

kenchan 03-23-2010 06:38 PM

yah, since you're getting the official screw from the manufacturer definitely wait for that. the screw post was just in case if you wanted to approach it DIY style. :D

flashburn 04-14-2010 07:31 AM

So did anyone ever do this mod? I'm still thinking about it.

kenchan 04-14-2010 02:06 PM

the mirror? i got one from amazon and installed mine. check the DIY section as there's a nice picture which wire to tap into. :)

370Z JT 04-14-2010 02:12 PM

I got the parts in but am just missing the setting screw. Will probably install next weekend.

kenchan 04-14-2010 02:45 PM

why are people missing the setscrews? the one from amazon came complete with everything...even the taps.

Do you have a link to the DIY? This is the only one I found, and there aren't any pictures for the installation:

I'd be really interested in seeing pictures on how/where to run the power wire.

1 - Gentex 453 (GENK45A) with compass - $225.00 shipped

2 - Gentex 453 (GENK45A) with compass and color change (any color) - $235.00 shipped

3 - Gentex 453 (GENK40A) without compass - $150.00 shipped (this is the one I have in my Nismo)

4 - Gentex 453 (GENK45A) with hidden compass and color change* - $235.00 shipped

* This asterisk denotes the fact that this mirror is the new OEM Subaru mirror made by Gentex and has actual RED LEDs with hidden compass style already built in. Greg (the gentleman I am dealing with) states this is, by far, the best route to take if you want a coloured LED or hidden compass style as his color changes are tints and the red tint absorbs some of the actual blue light of the compass. This will lead to dimmer than normal viewing of the compass in high light situations. Red is the only color that causes this issue. All other colors, including Amber, are perfectly fine when utilizing the tints.

All mirrors come with a wiring harness and plastic cover. Option 1 - 3 will come with the OEM Gentex wiring harness. Option 4 will come with a custom harness as the connector is different.

When making payment, please utilize PayPal as this is the seller's preferred method. Also, please mark the transaction type as "Goods" and be certain to include your shipping address. The seller will sell only to those with CONFIRMED addresses. The PayPal account is 'sales at wembleysells.com'.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them up.

Reviving this older thread. I'm interested in the non-compass mirror like Stormcrow got. I sent "WembleySells" a message through Ebay to see if he'll still do the $150 shipped price. If anyone else is interested let me know by PM, maybe he's more likely to honor that price if there is more than one sale.

tjlazer 09-12-2010 03:50 PM

Guys, just search for a homeline from a Nissan Maxima. It will come with the compass and most likely be in amber! I paid like $60 shipped for mine!
