Replacing OEM doors, any tips advice?

Hey guys, I've had the seibon doors in my garage for over 2 weeks now. Everywhere I go it's between 350-400 dollars for labor to have them installed. My buddy and I are thinking we'll do it ourselves since LI finally gets some nice weather this weekend. Any tips or advice? We're both literate mech guys but this is a bit more than installing an exhaust. All info is appreciated :tiphat:.

You'll have to transfer all of the crap from one to the next. Doesn't sound like much fun to me. Especially the window components.

Zigen5 03-04-2010 10:14 AM

Just make sure everything lines up and all the holes are there..

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 11:22 AM

the seibon door looks like it has all the necessary holes pre drilled

RCZ 03-04-2010 11:24 AM

can you post some pics?

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 11:36 AM

sure, if I end up doing it myself, I'll post all info and pics that go along with the job

RCZ 03-04-2010 01:20 PM

No I mean just of the doors :) You can never get good pics from Seibon

phelan 03-04-2010 01:33 PM

i'd also be spooked of their pre-drilled holes, considering the fun some have had installing their hoods...

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 01:38 PM

I wussed out, I have to write a brief this weekend, can't dedicate my full time to both, found a highly recommended ship that gave a great price so i might drop it off tomorrow, I'll get pics of the doors as soon as I can

Now for the hatch and b-pillars! (since you don't want overlays)

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 01:40 PM

yes yes, hatch and b-pillars are next, after the clutch and flywheel I need to let this engine free up. Dynoing on a dynojet on the 21st, nothing but test pipes thus far.

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 01:42 PM

I've seen the hood and hatch on this forum, anyone know who had it??

Edit: looks good Phelan how much did the parts run you?

phelan 03-04-2010 02:03 PM

i'll PM you

holy **** bladez, honestly, that car is gonna look weird with the rear qtr panel the last thing NOT in carbon....

oh and a pillars too. you got plans for those??

jmlenz 03-04-2010 02:07 PM

A kick *** setup would have been to just have no door handles at all, just the keyless entry button that would pop the door open. Now that would be trick.

vipor 03-04-2010 02:12 PM

The roof will still be metal too

phelan 03-04-2010 02:16 PM

u can vinyl or roof cap...

but i guess you'd have to vinyl the rear quarter.

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 04:37 PM

yeah it looks like it, damnit I don't like stickers

RCZ 03-04-2010 05:16 PM

Seibon has the hatch.

OMGWTFBBQ 03-04-2010 05:17 PM

You should have gotten a black car. It wouldn't have been as noticeable. Example:

NYBladeZ 03-04-2010 05:24 PM

it might not be noticeable in pictures but in person trust me its as noticeable as black/white. I think it looks killer on red, but that's me. Btw I got the car before I got the sponsor for the free cf that I have installed thus far.

CBRich 03-04-2010 06:26 PM

Hope the fit on it is good.

NYBladeZ 03-09-2010 07:10 PM

Hats off to Nissan engineering and my best friend who hopefully will come on this board. The doors install was a breeze. It took a bit to figure out the first door but it really wasn't that hard. The whole assembly is basically 4 pieces, the window, the door shell, the regulator & window track all as one easy piece, and the doors handles. I can't believe shops wanted around $400 dollars. Windows roll up easily and perfectly, no whistles, howling, or rattling of any kind.

NYBladeZ 03-09-2010 07:40 PM

I've heard they don't allow that at the track for safety reasons

tbonesteak 03-10-2010 11:53 AM

i pray to god you weighed the oem door and the cf door........i'm sure a lot of people are hoping you did that too.

I'd be surprised if they allow CF doors with no crash structure without a full cage. Drag strip they don't care but tech at other tracks can be much stricter.
