Can you polish the door handles?

So I was at a meet and a guy had these gun metal looking door handles. I wanna say it was 2016, 17,or 18 years that this worked on. I fell in love with it. He said he just polished them. I hear people talk about metal polish, paint polish, and it brought their handles to a gun metal color after they were given a high gloss polish? Has anyone else tried it? Are there pics to document the process? What did you use? I have a full spare set and ready to polish them but I need some direction. It's been a year since last talking to him.

Thank you in advance!!

Didn't they change the door handle color in 2018? Is that what you're talking about?

No, this guy polished it and the finished product was a gun metal. But there were only a couple of years you could do that to?

Polishing paint doesn't change it's colour tho. So doesn't seem very likely the story is true. But who knows.

They're painted plastic. Sounds like another car meet fairy tail.

:iagree:

Plastic door handles don't polish up like you're describing. The "polish" was likely a cleaner or finish wax on the painted handle.

LOL, folks will lie about anything. Too funny.

Yup can't even go to car meets anymore, it's like listening to a bunch of 4 year olds tell the tale of how their dads beat up Mike Tyson. :bs:

What? Door handles are plastic? I just checked mine and they definitely feel like metal. Now I’m intrigued.

Do you own a magnet? If not go ahead and start the process of polishing them like metal and you'll find out real quick.

But what if they're not ferrous? Pretty sure mine are made out of aluminumized tungsten oxide. Or was it tungstenised aluminium?

They're plastic. I have an extra set laying around and I just checked them

Thanks for the info. I learnt something new.

They are cast aluminum , I removed mine to hand lay the carbon fiber. And had to disassemble them and notch out few areas to do so. THERE MUST BE 2 TYPES. THEY DO HAVE REPLACEMENT PLASTIC ONES OUT THERE. if u look at how big of a differance in prices are. But I am 100% that mine are cast aluminum. After having to cut into them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1323768cb4.jpg

Strange considering I have a scratch on one that won't buff (polish out) and there's been other member who've mentioned the same and posted a matching paint code to fix.

They are still painted. Just some are made from plastic and others the cast

I just went into my garage to check my handles again. This time I used a multimeter to check whether they are conductive and they definitely are. Plastics are not normally conductive and I doubt Nissan would have gone through the trouble of coating plastic handles with a conductive metallic coating.

So, I can definitely confirm my handles are made of metal, most probably cast aluminum.

Were there different versions of these handles over the years? Maybe depending on the model year and market, some were metal and others were not? Don’t know.

Cool lets find someone to polish conductive units and see what happens! :tiphat:

Ummmm……….that one went over my head. Not sure if it’s a joke.
All metals are electrically conductive. Plastics are not. That’s all I was trying to convey. :tiphat:
