B Pillar/Rear Quarter Glass Rattle
Hello guys, been dealing with this weird metallic-ish rattle coming from the seat belt receiver/rear quarter glass area for a LONG time now. Searched to and fro on this forum and from my research over the past months nobody quite has this exact problem.
I attached a video with this sound... this has been happening with my STOCK exhaust and my now aftermarket one. This happens only at speed(60+ mph), there is no sound at city speeds(10-45 mph). Also this same sound is happening on the passenger side in the same area but that one doesn't rattle all the time.. and when it does it's very faint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqMpzMCMezA Today I removed the rear plastics and drove with them all off... noise was still there. Pinpointed it where my suspicion was... b-pillar/rear quarter area. Also previously took the exterior b-pillar cover off and the noise was still there. Running out of ideas... I'm thinking I may have to buy a whole new seat belt receiver. Or could this be a heat shield under the car? Any help would be appreciated, getting desperate :wtf2: |
I have the same rattle in my 16 NISMO, but the push-in holder on my B pillar trim is broken, so I just assumed it was that. Mine will rattle regardless of shred, but it has to be on a rough road. It's quiet on smooth asphalt or concrete.

Again, just throwing it out there. Good luck and let us know how you make out when you find the problem. |

I just hope the new Z doesn't fall victim to all these horrendous rattles the current has. Wishful thinking |
Little update.. been having another rattle/vibration only at a certain speed and rpm. Research tells me maybe my tires need to be balanced? I can trace the sound to the passenger side under the car(sounds like its coming from near the cats area)
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5DfEARMjDM Also was able to get the car on the lift and I was surprised to find no loose exhaust parts... I'm out of ideas |
UPDATE ISSUES SOLVED:
After dealing with this noise on my SECOND Z (Nismo at 16K mi) I have finally found the issue… and it’s a faulty defective manufacture part. The noise is coming from the seatbelt bracket (where the 14mm anchor bolt is) After this part came loose and stripped I took it to the dealership and was replaced under seatbelt warranty… hope this helps |
