Key fob shell

1 Attachment(s)
My key fob is worn and I was wondering if there are any replacement shell options on the market. I don’t need the key or the electronics in the fob. I was just hoping to find a new shell that I could put the components in to make the key fob new again. For example, in the picture attached, the alarm button is chipping and the clip is almost broken causing it to almost fall out. I tried ordering a generic Nissan shell on eBay but it didn’t snap together when I put everything in. I don’t want to spend another $400 on a new complete key fob from Nissan because this one works perfectly lol

How about a leather cover? Or CF?

This is a shell I believe.

I'd also like to know where to get a new shell with the Z logo.

All the generic ones on eBay etc all have the Nissan logo and it isn't attached. I haven't bothered trying it as I feel I'd make a mess of gluing on such a small part.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having this issue haha. I like having the z logo on my key and they are impossible to find. There was a thread about this a while ago but all the links are no longer available. I might call the dealership and see if they just sell shells instead of the entire key fob.

Update: Nissan only sells the entire fob which is like $200 which is not what I want considering the price and the fact that my key works fine. I like the look of the leather case but I use the key a lot in my car every time I drive it so it wouldn’t fit :/

What do you mean it doesn't fit? In your pocket? :icon14:

cooltoy 04-18-2020 12:39 AM

It does not make it that much thicker. I dremmeled off the big clip from mine and just put a regular key ring through instead.

PeachyZ 04-18-2020 01:25 AM

Oops I guess I can’t spell hahaha. I meant I use the key *slot* every time I drive.

JARblue 04-18-2020 01:26 AM

You mean the fobgina

TacoSport10 04-18-2020 04:34 AM

I had a fob do the same thing. I went with the leather cover for it. But it’s my spare and stays in my safe. I got the CF cover for my every day key.

Curious, why do you use the fobgina as JAR calls it?

Fuzzzy 04-18-2020 10:54 AM

Not sure how long I could tolerate using the fobgina all the time. I'm also curious why that is necessary.

I got both of the leather covers pictured--put one on each fob--after removing that silly clip somebody thought should be attached. Like Cooltoy, I put a regular ring through the fob I use regularly; haven't bothered with the spare.

Couldn't be happier with them, but they would be intolerable if I had to remove them regularly to use the fobgina.

Just bought the leather cover and it looks really nice so I’ll see how it fits once it gets here (in like 30 days haha)

Just wanted to say I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue!

Stupid thing is, I NEVER even press the darn panic button!

PS - I have the same key chain ;)

Doesn't look like the overlay cases will fit into the dash opening if desired.

I just bought one from this website, $93 for the genuine Nissan fob. It comes unprogrammed, so I'll do a couple of upates. One after I receive it to verify it has a "Z" on it and the second after I have it programmed.

BTW, the FCC code matches the ones I currently have. I'm replacing one fob because the 'panic' button was worn off and I tried replacing just that one with one of the 'el cheapo' ones off of eBay. Needless to say, the 'panic' button doesn't work now....:ugh2:

Parts available on Amazon - Murano Shell

Hey, I did a fob refresh a while back and used the Murano shell parts to replace the 3 button pads. Here's the parts that I ordered. I used the Z cover to keep the original look. Less expensive than the whole Z Shell and just as useful.

Here's the parts I ordered:

Note: the parts shells sales listings change from year to year. I have used the 3 button shells amazon sells without issues. I search for the most current listings there and go with what they have.

Here's my original write-up:

The problem I ran into was that the retainer holding the buttons had to be cut out of the replacement shell. Does the retainer on the ones from Amazon come out the same as the Z or do they have to be cut out? Thanks.

BTW, great write-up on your DIY. I've done several fobs over the years, this is the first one that's given me grief. :ugh2:
