GT-R seats in my 370Z!

So I’m halfway there - passenger seat is in, wired, all-way power, all sensors working and no warning lights. Needs a little fabrication work to finish the rails.
This was a lot of work. It’s been tried before but never successfully to my knowledge. LMore pics later but here’s a teaser...

Congratulations and kudos to you I have not seen this successfully done before in our cars. The GTR seats are comfortable and look beefy and large in the 370Z cockpit.

Is this really cost effective when you need custom work to make it fit?

Wouldn't just . . . a Recaro Sportster CS be better and easier, assuming it fits your frame?

How do the weights compare?

Power seats, so I doubt the weight was the main consideration...

Yes he definitely didn’t swap out to the GTR seats for weight reduction the Nissan GTR is a heavy pig to begin with. Any GTR owner should be more than happy to sell you their seats to try to curb some weight. Not only are the GTR seats expensive but they weight quite a bit. Again the GTR seats are more comfortable though. When my friend at the track swapped out his GTR seats for the Sparco R333 seats he weighted his GTR seats they came in at 66.4 lbs. for the drivers seats and 58.4 lbs. for the passenger seat power seats are generally always heavy.

Wow, great job OP. Thanks for the idea.

Weight was never a consideration.
The reason I swapped was to get the all-way power (front/back - up/down - lumbar support- thigh support), and they’re leather. I had manual cloth seats in my base 2017 6MT. My wife could not see over the hood in either seat. She would not drive it.
370Z power seats only go front/back, and can have heaters. The GT-R also has heaters but I’m not connecting them as I store my car over the winter.
Plus overall they are more plush and comfortable. Lumbar support is good for my back and thigh support deals with my long legs. Makes the car overall more luxurious and special. They should, seats from a $130k car in a $30k car.....

Would be awesome to submit a full how-to.

OttawaCDBR 04-18-2020 07:17 PM

I will. I’m doing a number of mods and have to start a build thread so all are in one place

Seats look good, I for one what do the same thing as I had Sparco seats on 350z vqhr and it threw an annoying airbag signal on the dash plus in an event of a crash no airbags to protect you.

Can you throw a heads up on this post when you post the how-to please!? I'm definitely in as soon as I see what's involved.

OttawaCDBR 04-22-2020 04:30 PM

I will indeed. For now I will say:

Most of the info you need is out there.
The rails are problematic.
I am an electrician by trade you need soldering skills
I found the seats for $700 CAD ($500 USD) for the pair

Thanks, no worries about soldering been at the mod game since 1998. My biggest worry is the rails.

How much closer to the roof do the GTR seats put your head? I'm 6'1 with only about 1-1.5" to spare as it is.

Great price on the seats!!

OttawaCDBR 04-24-2020 09:26 PM

I don’t know yet until rails are finalized. I’m 6’2” so it was a factor. I don’t think it will lessen headroom. The top of the GTR seats seem about the same height as the 370z as do the headrests.
I’ll let you know when I get the car back next week.
