Rattle in door?
Ever since I bought the car I've had a slight rattle in the driver door. Sounds like it's coming from the top. It'll rattle if I drive over bumps, or with certain bass frequencies from the music. It's never gotten worse.
I've put some sound deadening (butyl rubber) all over the inside of the door a while back, but only to where I can reach without pulling that big sealed metal piece off. It didn't really seem to help the rattle. Maybe it's the window track? Mainly wondering if it's a known issue at all. Muchas gracias |
I had a rattle in the driver's door of my '09. Dealer replaced what they called the window regulator and rattle went away.

Maybe I'll just run the Z without a driver door, see if that helps. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
I used to have a "buzz" coming from the driver's door/windshield area and it would make me crazy. It took about 5 years to find it, but it turned out to be the buttons on my garage door opener on the sun visor. At certain speeds and frequencies, it would make the noise.

I have this in my drives door as well. Noticed it a lot more after the stereo install. Just tap the window down button a smidge and the rattle goes away.

I've found if I just keep my music loud enough, I can't hear any rattles at all. :happydance: |
I fixed mine door rattle by replacing the window regulator assembly.
Not a real hard DIY... Seems like it was $80 on line. |

I've had a similar issue on my 2018 roadster. If the window is fully up (with or without the top down), I get an annoying rattle (sounds like metal on glass, maybe) coming from the drivers window. If I lower the window even half an inch, the noise stops. The weird thing is the top of the window isn't touching anything when the convertible top is down, so the point of contact has got to be in the door. I'm thinking the window regulator theory could be the correct one.

It is...
Mine only had 33k miles when I removed it. I run the AC too so it wasnt worn out. New one fixed it. |
Not to beat a dead horse here, but I just wanted to confirm that replacing the window regulator (NOT the window motor) completely fixed this issue. Even though my car is still under warranty, I just replaced it myself, because I've heard horror stories about the dealership screwing up stuff when they try to fix things. I bought an exact-fit, brand-new, OEM regulator online for $60, which includes shipping and tax. It took maybe two hours to do the install. Even though the rattle was minor, it was driving me crazy. Totally happy with the result.

I just pulled the door panel off and tightened the bolts to the regulator a smidgen..
Took care of it for me. |
Here's the link to the regulator I bought. (I got it from Amazon.)
https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-752-57...7141292&sr=8-1 Also: Per hrtbrknprince, I suppose it's possible that your rattle issue comes from a loose fastener. But if the symptom stops whenever you lower the window, even a tiny bit, then I'd bet it's the regulator. I had taken apart my door and tightened every single fastener, and even used locktite, but the noise persisted until I replaced the regulator. Good luck! Steve |
thanks!
