Strucked with truck tire on highway

A big chunk of tire on the highway was kicked up and bounced off my front bumper at high speed on the way home tonight. Happened too quickly so I didn’t have enough time to react to swerve out of the way. Looks like no major damage to the front bumper except that a large piece of the clear coat had been removed from the paint. Anyone know if this is something a body shop could repair without repainting the entire bumper? I plan on taking her in to have it checked out this weekend but just liked to know if it could be easily repaired without redoing the whole paint job :(

Sorry to hear

If just clear is removed, then I think a good shop can blend a new layer of clear fairly easily. It's blending the actual paint color that tends to be more noticeable. My guess is a professional would still be able to spot the clear coat repair, but a layman would have a hard time seeing it.

Kind of hard to answer without a pic of damage..

Really strange there isn't anymore damage from the impact than just the clear coat peeled off. Could this be fixed? Would suck having to redo a whole bumper because of this spot:facepalm:

Just have it painted. By the time they sand to rough it up and smooth out the clear coat there will be a low spot there. I'd be surprised if a body shop doesn't want to paint it. This is up top where it's noticeable. If it were down low maybe. I doubt a body shop will want to do that. Look at it this way, it's probably a chance to take care of some rock chips on your front bumper.

Needs bumper repainted. Dont go cheap on it, just get it done correctly and you wont regret it if the clear coat goes bad down the line trying to save some money. Let us know what estimate is for having bumper repainted.

That's awful man...glad you're ok. Hopefully you can stumble across a partout with a similar color and save a few pennies
