Digital License Plates!?

I found this pretty interesting. The license plates are ridiculously expensive and only available on the rear, but I might just have to do it.

Some of the future features seem beneficial. Not sure I need news put on the person in front of me such as weather or alerts. Seems more distracting and or harder for law enforcement. The stolen tag is fantastic along with the idea they somehow were able to change the tag of vehicle that was in the alert with the plate reading, "Alert for my Vehicle, please report."

But as always with any technology, it can be reprogrammed or tampered with. Our current plates can be tampered with, which rarely happens afaik, but with these new plates I feel the reward for someone looking to tamper is far greater. The device seems like it has to communicate in some form or fashion so the anti-theft is kinda useless, which can be man in the middle attacked so we'll see.

As someone in advertising, I know how this would play out lol.

Hackers are hacking into bank and various government sites nowadays. Just imagine the chaos if someone were able to get into the DMV system and start screwing with these plates? Whats next digital VIN numbers?

Technology isn't always the best answer to everything!

Paper and pencil are still one of the safest and best ways to communicate in this day and age since...well...as you guessed it! Digital Hackers!!!

Long story short...Don't do it!!!! xD

$700 and $7 a month? I'll pass, but I do think its a cool concept.

I'd prefer to spend $500 on a 5 year vanity plate registration. And no monthly subscription either...

If I had a digital plate, I'd find someone to hack it and reprogram it for me. Advertise my business, friends' bands, or just run humorous/clever/helpful/obscene messages on it as the situation dictates.
