did some reading regarding the sticky dashboards. the cause is the dash material not reacting well to the heat/UV, and it has nothing to do with the cleaning/condition/chemical some suspected.

it is a common issues with other makes as well.... toyota has finally started a recall some years back.

Actually, not just heat/UV. Same things have happened to Ferraris that sit in the garage a whole lot.

Personal example: Since late 2015 till this day, my Z has sat in the garage for majority of the time, driven for maybe 3k miles total at the most. Car gets driven for fun mostly when sun is down. The sticky dash developed during this time. It's an 09 that just turned 36k miles.

My G also has this sticky dash issue. It's a 2010 with 50k miles. Garage kept at home and work.

On the bright side, I applied some 303 UV Protectant Spray about 2 months ago, and the dash on both cars have remained sticky-free. Knock on wood.

I have similar experience.

Z is always in the garage and rarely driven, and the dash became a bit sticky last year. However, the garage does get up to 100+ during Summer in Socal here.

however, the g37s is DD (outside) and the dash is just fine without any stickiness or discoloring.

after a good cleaning with water, the stickiness is gone on the Z's dash, but it turned a bit grayish after awhile. I've treated it with meguiar's natural shine vinyl protectant and it's back to the normal color for now. Guess I have wait a bit to see if the stickiness/shininess comes back.

just wanna check back with you if the 303 UV protectant kept the dash sticky-free?

also curious if you had used any other chemical before the dash became sticky?

Sticky dash does come back, more pronounced when humidity is high. I had not use other chemical prior to the sticky dash syndrome, maybe a little bit of Pledge on a small towel, but nothing directly sprayed onto the dash. And this syndrome happens in places I can hardly reach also, places that don't get touched or even get exposed to sunlight, so it's safe to say the little use of Pledge had nothing to do with the deterioration.

Mine is only very slightly sticky, but is cracking/separating around all the edges of the dash where it radiuses into a right angle (door sides) etc.
How disappointing that such an otherwise nice car has this plague on it. I always keep a solid (not plastic) dash cover custom fitted. Daily driven with 65K.

It does suck man. Mine has done the same thing. I am seriously considering presenting this info/thread to a lawyer. My brother in law. I think we have enough evidence that clearly this is a factory defect. It overall ruins the interior and results in a lower resell value.

the materials they used for the dash is deteriorating over time/heat/UV. it became dangerous due to the glare/reflection on the windshield.

I think the issues developed after 3 years or so, but probably sooner in warmer climate.

Toyota took care of it.

My dash has deteriorated like crazy over the last year. It almost looks like a suede finish now. Sticky to the touch. Car has been sitting in an insulated garage in Texas for the entire year and it's just seems to be getting worse and worse. No rhyme or reason for it. Put 100K miles on it as a DD with no issues and now it gets parked and this happens :shakes head:

Yep, dark + moisture seem to be the real culprit. I have 3 cases on my hand now, all developed under similar conditions. I also had an old Escort 8500 mounted in the Z, and the rubber cover on the coiled power cord did the same thing.

If the Z is being stored, I suggest:

• Be sure the dash is clean,
• Be sure the dash is protected (like the 303 spray)
• Put one of those moisture absorbing thing in the the interior.
