Exterior door lock/unlock button not working
Alright, I have been beating my head against the wall on this one.
Neither of my door request buttons is working. The one on the trunk does work. Key fob works (window rolls down). Valet key in lock rolls windows up and down. What's even weirder is that when i hit the button I can hear a relay click in the fuse box near the battery. Also, if I roll the window down and hit the button while the ignition is on, I get a series of short beeps (assume this is some kind of security warning in case someone is messing with your car while you are driving) Given the relay click, and the other clues mentioned above, it seems to me that the signal is making it to that fuse box bit for some reason doesn't activate the actual lock mechanism. Fuses checked. Connections pulled and reseated. Checked the long term storage switch. Read a bunch of articles that taught me some neat tricks but never actually got in to troubleshooting. Am I looking at a trip to the dealer or is there something else I should check? |
Have you looked at the FSM wiring diagrams? You sound like you could make good use of those to figure out where you are losing power/signal.
|
Funny you should mention it. I was literally just looking at them. Going to break out the voltmeter and trace some wires tomorrow and see if anything sticks out.
|
Since it affects both sides, my first guess is bad contact on the relay. Second guess would be a wire/fuse (if you didn't do it before, check fuses with your VOM) common to that circuit (ie, problem should be before wires split to actuators).
Since the relay is pulling in, I doubt that the BCM is the problem. |
Could this be an interior RF cabin antenna issue? There's one in the center console. I know a guy who had recently his key fobs stop working and traced it back to this in-cabin antenna.

Turns out the problem was indeed the antennas. The FSM led me to the two antennas in the quarter window interior panels. However, it was due to them not being plugged in. I had taken the panels off in order to do some work on the car and had left them out while working on some other stuff.
Strange that the button was actuating a relay, but not opening the door, you would think without the signal from the key fob that it nothing would trigger. Either way, problem fixed. Thanks guys! |
Glad you got it all sorted out

I know it's stated "Center Console" - how do I get to it? |

I started having this issue with exterior door locks. same issues as AntiVenom. Hopefully it is a easy as replacing the master window switch. I don't use this car enough to have this wear our on me like this. At one point I swear, I kept hearing the door locks activate on their own every once in awhile due my battery draining out. which probably affected the switch itself. It stopped once I got a new battery and kept it on a trickle charger. |
My new to me 2010 passenger door button doesn't work. Driver door and trunk buttons work.Key fob battery is fresh. Any suggestions?

Anyone?
