Thoughts/Opinions about Grip Royal style steering wheels on street cars?

I'm copy/pasting from a Reddit post I made this morning:

I love the look, but I also love the airbag. Just wondering how many of you guys have done this mod and I'm wanting to know how impractical it is for daily use.

Also, I've got a very modern sports car, so I'd be losing some features like the call button things for phones and cruise control, but I plan on getting a new radio anyway so I don't really care so much about that. What I do care about, though, is that I'd be losing the airbag.

Is it worth it or nah? I'm about to pull the trigger on either a Grip Royal or just grab a muffler delete instead.

Thanks, guys. Sorry for a pretty odd question. I looked online and didn't really see anyone talking about safety for the street, just track stuff with Momo steering wheels.
Looking for some more opinions. The only commenter on Reddit was a dude with an '01 S2k.

I've thought about it some more today, too, and it seems really impractical. But I like to be different, and having a race wheel would certainly be different...

We have a Personal Suede Steering wheel in our car. The main reason we installed it was to have it attached to a quick release so we can get in and out of the car easier. The full bucket seats have high bolsters so it's tough to get your legs past the steering wheel. I enjoy the overall feel when driving, but it does have some cons:

- No airbag, so safety is sacrificed as you stated. This is our show car, so it doesn't see much road time any way... but still something major to consider if this is your daily driver.
- Suede material gets dirty really easily. We're always washing our hands before driving the car. This isn't an issue if you decide to go with leather, but you will still want to take care of it.
- No more steering wheel controls. Cruise control is the feature I miss most.

Firstly, thanks for the reply!!

I'm (very) slowly turning this Z into a show car, and found a pretty sweet deal on a wooden Grip Royal wheel, so I won't be too worried about the suede issue. However, it is my DD as of right now, but I'm saving up for a more practical DD anyway (looking at trucks).

Also, I rarely use cruise control, so I'm not too bummed about that. Really the only thing I'd be missing is the airbag, but I don't drive often enough to feel that I absolutely need it. You can never be too careful, though, and I realize that. I don't want to sound cocky, by any means, but I'm a very careful driver and am always checking my surroundings. My eyes are always on the road, looking out for other drivers. If anything happens to my car that would require an airbag to be deployed, it would be either someone else being really dumb and rear ending me out of nowhere or hydroplaning or something off the road. Both of which aren't very likely, but it happens.

I'm 6'3, 250 lbs, and have a really bad back. I could definitely use the quick release to help ease out of the car, and that is one of the main reasons why I'm wanting one, honestly.
