Carbon Fiber Nightmare and SEIBON Carbon
Excited to get home and install all these parts I've opened up a damn nightmare.
First, the carbon mudflaps I bought won't fit my Nismo. Stupid me, I should of known since the Nismo's body is different. I can't expect the Z store to take them back so I'll put them on the classified and hopefully recover part of my $. I bought a beautiful vented hood from Ebay, manufacturer is SEIBON and I couldnt understand why they were only 675. Now I know why.... I just don't get how they go through all this trouble to make such a nice item yet none of the DAMN HOLES MATCH!!! The clip holes are too large for the rubber seal, 3 holes are missing and two are not lined up right. The Wiper Spray area is too thick so the clips wont go in. The holes for the rubber stoppers are too thick and too small so they wont fit either. WTF!!!!! Spent 2 hours messing with it and I'm done with this pc of SH#$. To make matters worth, bought a Ti shift know and the EBAY loser won't even email me back after 2 weeks.:shakes head: That's it.....No more mods for a while, sad how people don't back their goods anymore. Oh well, parts on Classified section with HONEST Descriptions. Be careful with all the above and Happy Thanksgiving |
sorry to hear that man, personally I quit buying parts off ebay once I stopped driving mustangs. On the Z I'd rather pay a little more to make sure it all works out ok. Been hearing negative things about seibon for awhile. I went full cf (fingers crossed parts haven't arrived yet) but I worked closely with the company making my parts and they are one off pieces. Like I said hopefully it comes out ok.
|
Thanks bro. Let us know how you do on your parts, I may give it one more chance if I get a positive reference from someone off the board. At least the exhaust, intake and system went well..
|
Yeah, I really haven't heard anything good about Seibon. Sorry about your experience.
|
Wow Sorry to hear about that! hope things turn for the better for you down the road!
Happy Thanksgiving |
are you sure u ordered a 370z hood, and not mistakenly ordered a 350z hood? because i believe the sebion hoods aren't out yet officially
|
Thats Seibon quality for you.

To the OP. Don't give up modding all together man but from now on I'd definitely consult some of the vendors here for your purchases. I can't say we have bum vendors here that would send you poor quality products with fitment issues etc. Some of the vendors here have already shown customer service that is considered to be "above and beyond" the norm. Happy modding:tup: |

Definitely a 370 hood. Not trying to be a pain, I really don't mind some mods, like I said, owned a good size bike shop a while back. Built Carbon GSXR's, Duc's and MV's until my hands had blisters on them.
I'm ok with some mods but this is just a bit silly. It just cracks me up that you would spends hours getting this weave perfect and the edges finished yet when your drilling the holes for the mounts they are not even close. I may just plug the wiper sprayers since I dont need them in CA anyway, buy new plugs and a tube of weather strip sealer. I'm a little cooler now, pretty PO'd last night. If no one wants it off the classified in the next day or so I'll start working on it, I have every tool known to man, just dont feel like F'ing with it. Besides, you know how carbon is...cool to look at but not like I'll gain 20 HP or anything. Love this car, want to keep fixing it up... Wife wants me to get another street bike to fix up but already had them all and kind of tired of that scene after my shop shut down. Thanks again, appreciate the feedback. |
I like JB's comments, think I'll just hit up a bodyshop. Neighbor owns 6 of them so I'm sure he can hook it up! I was thinking about running some a thick black stripe down the center where the ridges are and narrowing it at the front, then maybe blacking out the rims and making the hood match the silver with just a tad of carbon exposed.
Any thoughts on the above. I already dropped about $4K into the system and its sweet, all hidden in the spare area so clean as can be. Exhaust and intake is done, ordered some carbon badges but think I may just have them filled and painted now. Anyone seen a Z with this sort of stripe? Went through the whole PS area but nothing like this (some cool concepts though). PS. Pretty much stick with the board members thus far but regret not using them for the hood....oh well, that's what I get for buying off instinct. |
I am so glad that I am happy with my stock Z the way it is. It makes life so easy to live and my wallet stays full and happy as well.

I stopped selling Seibon outright because I got tired of the fitment issues, and I got tired of them not working with us when packages arrived to customers damaged that they shipped. They are the only hood manufacturer we dealt with that ever had such issues. I decided to stick exclusively to those manufacturers that I didn't have to worry about hood fitment issues, and it has worked out splendidly. They are more expensive, and we don't sell as many hoods as we used to, but I don't care. I'd rather sell 1/4 the # of hoods and know that each one that goes out the door is perfect. It will be the same for us with this car. If no firm I trust releases a hood, then we won't sell hoods, simple as that. |

By fitment issues Im not talking about having to trim or anything like that, what I mean is something like adjusting the hood to get the right height for it to sit flush etc.... Now the seibon hood is off and Im already prepared to be dealing with that lol.... |
Fitment issues are fitment issues in my book - it either fits or it doesn't. I have not had a single issue with the C West, Ings, Top Secret, MCR or ASM hoods we offer for the 350Z, and those are who we will stick to should they decide to do 370Z stuff.

funny enough, I went with a local wholesale company, gave them my panels to make a mold off of and the pieces I've seen thus far (bumpers, hood, side skirts) have been perfect. There are good cf parts out there, unfortunately Seibon decided since they made enough money already it is no longer in their best interest to satisfy their paying customers. I remember one member on here (nizz?) who stripped and sent all his panels to seibon...any one hear anything since...I haven't.

Much better day today! First ZCARPARTS.COM is awesome! They said they will take the mudflaps back so I personally think thats very cool of them as they were special order. I will make sure to make it up to them with many more orders.
Redrilled all the holes, plugged the wiper sprayers. Used Weatherstrip adhesive and attached the corners. Then I plugged the bad holes with some premixed and colored fiberglass patch and guess what...hood is on!!! Took me nearly 7 hours but car does look pretty sweet. Its CRAZY how light the stock hood is, my 12 year old son and i picked it off the car with no effort at all, SUPER LIGHT... That said, not much weight savings gained but the vented hood does look really nice. Still a little more spaced on one side or the other but there's no adjustments so I'll let the bodyshop tend to that. Thanks for all the comments, now its time to look for more parts to play with :) |
Hey Z1 performance, checked out your site....need more 370 parts!!! Nice site though, tons of parts just not enough 370 stuff, yet....

would like to see how it came out! |
Just put them under the Gallery Section, pics of the hood, intake, exhaust etc. Let me know what you think on that thread.. Looks a little meaner but the stock hood look clean.
|
yea cool, will check them out.

not enough worth me selling yet quite honestly when worthy parts are released, we'll offer them...but we firmly beleive that just because it's made, doesn't mean we should offer it |
I appreciate your attitude. I'll look your site up and see if there are any other parts I need. Just picked up the Clear tailights, really want those carbon vents in the front nose but I can't see paying 1200 and waiting 2 months to get them.
|
the mines ducts arrive in about 2 weeks ;)
they are very expensive, I agree, but that's the deal with Mines stuff - they are a small, high end manufacturer, and their stuff is priced accordingly. But, they do make very, very nice stuff and the quality is second to none |
What do they run...over a $1000? Just can't see how that makes sense for tiny little vents. hmmmm...I'm ready to get some more stuff but running out of ideas. I'm going to keep poking around the board for good ideas. Thanks again

seibon ts style hood
Well, I read this thread and decided to purchase a seibon ts style hood for my car. I was very afraid after reading this thread. Because mainy threads I have read about CF fading, I wanted to spray mine with a two part polyeurothane clear coat with UV blockers and absorbers, but because of this thread, I decided to fit mine on my car before going to the expense of shooting it. I feel confident that I received an original Seibon hood because I live next to the factory, and the whole saler that I picked it up from is next to Seibon, and they do not stock Seibon parts, they just send a truck over and pick it up from Seibon as needed. I seen other threads where people say they received thier product in a brown box, or it had a sticker on the good saying Seibon, but mine was in a white bos that said Seibon all over it. inside it was rapped in plastic that said Seibon all over it, and the hood has a metal badge on the inside that says Seibon, so perhaps some of the problems some people are experiencing are due to Seibon knock offs. I measured my OEM hood and the Seibon before even trying to put it on, I could not measure for warp factors, but inital demensions were all the same. So I put it on the car and there was no problem, the hood fits ecactly like my OEM hood. I took it off had it shot with the Dupont UV clear coat, and put it back on again, I did have to take a file to bore out the holes for the the rubber stops, other than that everything fit fine, it was also missing a couple of holes for the rubber linning on the front, but I just used 3m double sticky tape to hold down the corners. But most importantly the hood is an exact match for fit.

Thats good to hear!
|
The 1st ones never fit right. After a few batches or so. They get the fitment better.
Same thing happened with the G37, the 1st batch was garbage but now the hoods fit well. |
This is very good to hear since I just ordered a Seibon hood which i should be getting this week. I will be sure to check to see that the box is white with the logos on it, as well as the metal logo stamp. Anyway you can take some pictures and post them up tonight? :)
|
Just make sure you are getting a newer version of it. Do not get the older ones as those won't fit properly.
|
how would we know if it is the newer version.
|
New version , old version doesn't matter. All the boxes have been white with the logos for years now
350z owners still have issues with the TS hood for example and it's been out for years either buy it locally or stick to better quality stuff in the first place and you won't go wrong |

yeah I remember I bought a TS hood for my 350z back when I had one. I only bought it because I got it used for ridiculously cheap, and my stock hood was bent. That piece of sh*t didn't fit right AT ALL. That was a complete turn off for me to their products. I was so po'd I just sold it and used the bent/chipped OEM hood, lol. |
370z seibon ts style hood
I just put this hood on my car, the fit is perfect, I did have to make the wholes for the rubber bumpers bigger, and I just used 3m double stick for the rubber seal around the front for two missing holes, and the two that didn't line up, havn't put the sprayers on yet, I am ordering new ones for the hood, and if the hood is too thick for the pins to lock, I will glue them in, Most importantly to me is the gaps and seal of the hood and how it sits on the car, it looks and fits awsome, Also I shot my hood with a two part polyeurothane clear coat that has uv absorbers and blockers to prevent yellowing and fading, let you know how it works out.

this is with the ts hood
? Now what about oem hoods? Anyone have problems? Mine is coming either today or tomorrow! |
