Which upgraded hatch strut for Amuse Wing?

So the Amuse wing is noticeably heavier than the stock sports wing - bicep dyno says about 10-15lb more. Seems like Z1 is the only company making upgraded struts for the 370. Has anyone had experience with them? I'm having trouble deciding between their LHP and MHP models. As is right now with the OEM struts, the hatch goes up very slow up until about halfway and then needs noticeable amount of assistance getting up all the way, but has no trouble staying up (that's what she said). I'm looking for an OEM-like open and close experience if possible. Z1's description is vague in terms of what is supposed to be a "heavier" spoiler.

Also, $12 is a bit high for shipping struts. I notice that their shipping rates are quite high for everything, even the smallest/lightest of products. Anyone have promo codes?

Description is as follows:
"The Level 1 High Pressure (LHP) units are great for almost every application, they are a little stronger than the originals and will support most aftermarket spoilers or just be strong for a standard application. The upgrade to the Mega High Pressure (MHP) units offer mamimum added lift support for the Largest heavier aftermarket spoilers, or just a workout for those looking for it.

*Please note; These hatch struts are stronger and intended as an upgrade to the stock units, not just a standard replacement. Upgraded LHP hatch struts will require a little more effort to close the hatch if a heavier spoiler is not in place, while MHP units will require a notable amount of effort to close the hatch if a heavier spoiler is not in place."

What wing do you have on, and how is the lift and closing like?

Also, I noticed your sig says you have 3" duals. Are you N/A? If so, did you lose any bottom-end power?

Nismo wing. I am N/A at the moment but I'm going to change that. I didn't notice any loss in bottom end

I put a Nismo wing on my Sport. I kept the stock struts without any issues. But for the Amuse wing I might have looked into the stronger struts.

There is also a fix where you put pennies in to make the stock struts more compressed.

I have the Amuse wing and the high pressure struts, granted, I just installed them...

But holy crap it's hard to close now. I'd go with their regular higher quality ones, but maybe they're not broken in. Really put into perpetuate how shítty the OEM ones are

Also, $12 for shipping? What's the problem? They cost probably $8 to ship, then $4 for handling? Not too bad.
If you don't like the shipping cost, either order more crap, or contact Jon @Z1 and tell him Andrew the ásshole sent you and say you don't like the shipping, maybe he can knock a couple bucks off?

Yup just did the penny trick last night, but it's meant for the popper springs on the hatch, not struts.

Does the high pressure you have make the hatch fly up now? And is it a 2-handed experience to close the hatch?

Did you try removing the weight attached to the underside of the hatch?

wdkwang 06-06-2016 06:51 AM

what weight are we talking about?

Here is a guide to where it is and how to remove it

The hatch doesn't really fly up. Once you start lifting it, it'll lift the rest of the way by itself. Also I have no problem closing mine with one hand

oh thank you. i did see that when installing the amuse wing but left it on because my friend said ita probably meant for NVH. Did you notice any noises/vibrations after removing yours?

Nope but my car is kinda loud. I'm pretty sure it's there to help close the hatch. You've added more weight with the new spoiler though so it is no longer needed.

thanks. looks like ill be doing some weight reduction when i get home today

wdkwang 06-06-2016 10:04 PM

got the weight off the trunk. there's a slight difference now with how the trunk pops up a little more when hitting the button, and how it can open fully on its own from a lower height than before. still tempting to get stronger struts but this will do for now considering how i rarely ever open the trunk.
