Anybody know what these are for?

So I'm looking through the trunk today and I find this pair of rubber parts in a plastic bag.
Anybody know what these are for and if they're supposed to be attached to the car somewhere? |

Bingo. That is it.... Thanks...

Lucky your dealer at least left them in the hatch, mine were nowhere to be found and had to order them. They are supposed to help with guiding the air away from the wheels and lessen the turbulent air going underneath the car.
|
I had those in my trunk also. I put them on & took them back off after about a week. Every time I turned into a parking lot or driveway with any up angle they would drag & made a terrible scrapping noise. They are now laying in my garage.

Yeah I am guilty of scraping mine a few times too. It happens.:icon17:

The dealer installed the air dam without my asking, so now I too have that wonderful scraping sound over most any imperfection in the road. If you do not want to hear the scraping sound for some unknown reason, approach from a rather large angle, and all should be well in many cases.

Well I did install them this morning. And I saw that it left about 2-1/2" of clearance right there in front of tne tires. So I will see what happens and they may be coming off as well.
Driving the car down to The Villages this next weekend and we will see how many times they scrape on the whole trip |

The inclusion of the little air dam shows Nissan's attention to detail, imagine the cost that went into creating a mold for that part, the research and development, and everything else. It probably cost them $30,000 up front to stick that on the Z (or at least throw it in your trunk). The first time I heard the scraping sound from under the Z I just about flipped out realizing I had damaged my new car, and could not believe I could not find damage anywhere on the vehicle. Turns out it was that little plastic resonator, that makes a horribly loud complaint anytime it gets near an obstruction. Maybe they should be called "bump naggers," because anytime the front end gets near a protrusion they remind us we're not driving a 4 x 4. |

I just removed mine, I got tired of them constantly scraping on my drive way.

Why would any company make rims that big and that ugly? And why would a company make tires to fit those rims? :shakes head:

Interesting. I have one installed on the passenger side, but not the drivers side. I changed out my spark plugs this weekend and was cleaning the MAF sensors and dropped one of the MAF screws, and when I was removing the underbody tray to recover that screw, the drivers side had the bolts for that part. I thought the previous owner had scraped on something and it sheared off. Is that part supposed to be on both sides?
*Edit: Now that Im thinking about it, I cant remember if it was on the Drivers or Passengers side! (Ive been up since 2am "working" and the coffee is wearing off) Quote:

I've also been thinking of taking these air guides off. They always scrape on my driveway and sound terrible. Looking at the under body, these guides sit much lower than anything else. I can't imagine they really help that much with fuel economy/air flow.
Maybe I'll do a little test to see if there's any fuel economy impact... |
Those fugly rims on the mustang..... wow....
When I picked up my 2018 sport, the dealer left the those parts uninstalled and said many customers don't like them. I've been wondering how much it really helps with air flow. The scraping noise would drive me nuts, and since I am not in my 20's anymore I don't see myself driving over 100mph. |
Not to derail this thread but that mustang would be considered a "Donk". Not my thing, to each their own, google "Donk" and see many examples.
